7D and Adobe Premiere CS4 workflow in detail

Thanks Papa.

Yeah, I figured I would have a system more than good enough to handle this footage! But when I drop a Canon mov or a avid DNxHD codec mov into a Prem timeline (i've tried a multitude) I get fine playback for about 3 or 4 seconds before all manner of stuttering begins. I've tried Desktop 1080p as well as AVCHD 1080p sequence presets.

For Avid I followed Eugenia's recipe here:

Just so I'm perfectly clear on this: People like Eugenia are recommending this Avid codec because it will improve the ability of NLEs like Premiere and Vegas to handle the footage and this codec allows people (who may not even own a quad core) to play footage back in their NLE smoothly?

I didn't want to spend much for a video card thinking I might have to just invest in Neoscene - so I got an ATI Raedon 4650 Saphire 512mb. Seems to provide only a slight improvement in performance.
