720p 60I Confirmed

Barry you may not have a secret track (don't mean to make you Gordon Gecko) but at least you'll call...so if you do blah blah blah...at least you've done the due diligence. As far as the over heating there are as many people who have not had it happen as have. We don't know why some do some don't. If I recall Timur had his 5d over heat and he is the first person i've heard that happen to. Hey I may gripe about arm chair engineers but i'm consistently griping about them ;). That said the more I listen to that video the less i'm sure of my original assertion...may be eating a good ole plate of crow pie on that one...but i'll eat like the cyber man I am.

The camera in the video with the HDMI cable coming out of it that is likely feeding his screen looks like a 7D judging by the shape of the housing for the optical view finder.

I find the timing of this thread interesting.

I find the timing of this thread interesting.

In Washington Dc this week the annual Government Video Expo was held.
I attended on Wednesday with a friend, who is camera shopping, Canon had a spot there along with the typical players.

My buddy and I went over and looked primarily at the Canon 1d Mark IV
and after going over it with the reps, one asked if I owned a Canon and I said yes, the 5D M2.

There were 3 reps there and they were all stumbling over each other to be the 1st to tell me that the new firmware was going to have the same frame rates as the
Canon 1D Mark IV.

EOS HD movie with manual exposure control and multiple frame rates (1080: 30p (29.97) / 24p (23.976) / 25p, 720: 60p (59.94) / 50p, 480: 60p (59.94) / 50p).

I told them I had only heard about the 24p update or upgrade and they said the company's' intent is to give all their video capable cameras the same frame rate selections no matter which camera you purchased. That would be outstanding if it happened but I won't hold my breath.

I blew it off because as we know, until it's released, it could be anything, I didn't post earlier because I didn't think it was accurate.

Now I think there may be a chance, I'm only expecting 1080 24p, anything more than that would be out standing as far as I'm concerned.

In listening to what he said I heard him mention that the 5Dll will only get 24p…and then he mentions the other three cameras having multiple frame rates.

EDIT: Believe me...I was listening intently to what he had to say and this is what I made out almost verbatim:
“there’s going to be a firmaware update that we’ll add to the 5D that will add 24 frames to the…to the camera itself….and we are expecting that …ah..the first half of next year. So we’ll add the 24 frame rate to the 5D and then we’ll add to the other 3 cameras which do 24p..23.98…um ..29 and uh 30 and 60i. Ah..also 720p as well as 1080 nowYou’ll have 60 frames a second in 720p mode..so there’ll be a lot of choices in terms of frame rates…..”

....I know...I'm strange...

Your idea of verbatim is questionable ! :) - Here is what he is actually saying:

. . . . there's going to be a firmware upgrade coming for the 5D which will add 24 frames to the . . to the camera itself . . . and we're expecting that . . eh . . first half of next year . . . so we'll add . . eh . . the 24 frame rate to the 5D and that will match the other three cameras which do 24 . . 23.98 . . em . . 29 . . eh . . 30 . . and . . eh . 60i . . . I'll just have the 20p [sic] as well as 1080 now . . so you have 1080 and 20 [sic] . . eh . . 720 . . it'll do 60 frames per second . . 60p in 720 mode, so you're going to get a lot of choices in terms of frames rates (unintelligible mumble) coming through . .

What I was told by the Canon reps then here in DC, that is great news as far as I'm concerned.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Lol...I guess the reason I thought it was the 5d menu was the 1080 30p at the top with no 1080 29.97...is that how the 7d's menu looks?

Yes, the 7D says "24" and "30" and "60"... no mention of "29.97" (even though that's what it is).

Gotcha, so that could very well have just been a 7d menu. Well since I can't see where it is definitively the 5d mk II, I won't read into what I saw anymore. Sorry for the jump on "confirmation" guys.

If 500D /t1i would get 24p on place of its 20p then it would be amazing for such price. Many guys would jump on it immediately.go go canon.
Too bad you didnt asked about t1i/500D and their plans to match framerates with 7D.

ask about t1i... that would be a great cheap dslr

yeah I have to say, with 24p the t1i would be really nice for the price. that rep did say it was coming to "all" the cameras. hopefully they could do a manual control firmware update as well. it shouldn't be that different from the 5d's firmware seeing how they both have the same digic iv processors etc. then again, hudson seems to be not having that easy a go of it with the 7d compared to the 5d, although that does use two digic ivs. who knows.
