720P 60 and 24 to Pal?

I was considering buying the US version as well, but I came to the conclusion that it would be too much of a hassle. I regulary do some music promos, and It would be great to be able to do MOS at high speed at 60 fps. But then I would need to shoot the sync, against a 4% timestretched version, and then reconform 24@25 in fcp to match it to the 100% version.

Too bad we didn't get 60p MOS in the Euro version....

(I'm still hoping that some bloke of a hacker can modify the firmware, like it happened to the Canon 300D. He actually enabled a lot of features (ISO3200, FEC, mirror lockup, servo focus) and changed the button configurations. But first we would need to get some tools to download and upload the firmware, and compare the binaries)

If there's a hacker that would do this he would have my full support :) Too bad our warranty would go down the drain with this...

Anyway, Anders, what do you mean by shooting the sync against a 4% timestreched version? Wouldn't just a normal conform do the trick? I undestand MTV editing a bit, since I'm constantly working on them, and I know how important the editing vs the sound is in this scenario, but would just a 4% speed up of audio put everything in sync? Like do all the editing in FCP at 24fps, export a 24fps qt, conform in Cinematools to 25fps. import back to FCP and in the timeline speed up the original 24fps audio to 4%?

I don't think most artists would appreciate a 4% speedup of their music. Even though most Motion Pictures on DVD and TV here in europe are speed up 4%, almost all TV originated in 60i contries are converted through motion estimation converters that does not alter speed (but does artifact) This includes Music videos.

Anyways I paid $6370 in preorder for the camera delivered with the standard Danish 2 year guarentee on parts & labour.

Not bad I think....

Anders, I believe every hollywood movie converted to European projection has that "speed up" on it. It actually sounds more exciting. Try going for a movie and see the end credits with the feature song. I remember seeing 8mile in Europe and the end song, "loose yourself" from Eminem sounded a bit faster. Not enough to degrade the quality, but more exciting. In the country I studied, Portugal, there was a radio station that purposedly accelerated their music 3 to 4 % to make it sound "more exciting" and d"different". It was one of the stations with highest audience ratings there. I don't know, however, if this is legal.

Try speeding up a Pop song by 4%. It will sound slightly different, almost the same, actually, but strangely more fresh. I can't say this works the same from 25P to 24P. slowing down makes audio feel less dinamic. Try it!

just shoot in 25p man, its got a good enough film look as any, especially because its progressive, if u have it transfered to film, the technicians know how to slow pal25p down to 24 and it looks great.
