Shooting 60 tomorrow and just wondering how to handle the slowdown in FCP. Run it through cinema tools to 24? Also if thats the case 24 or 23.98

I know the actual camera shoots 24 but since I am converting from 60 whats best?

Seriously just throw it in FCP at 60p and then slow down by 40% and untick the 'frame blending' box!

It'll give you exactly the same look as conforming it in Cinema Tools!

I've never used a HVX so wouldn't know how that works for slomo mate :(

The slomo in this video was done the way i said mate!

so the 60fps slo mo does not work like it does on my HVX?
The 7D doesn't shoot slow-mo, it shoots 720/60p. You have to conform the footage to 24fps in order for it to look slow-mo.

The HVX has the ability to do that in-camera, which makes the footage inherently slow-mo. But the GH1 and 7D don't, they shoot live "video-looking" 720/60p, so you have to reconform in post. The end result is the same thing as if it'd been done in-camera, it just requires this additional step.

Thanks Barry. I thought it was in-camera. Mine comes today!!

Conforming in something like cinema tools or a similar program will yield better results overall compared to just dropping into a FCP timeline. FCP will make the movement look somewhat staccato at times.

Oh wow! I really couldn't tell the difference!

Also if you do it in FCP you can choose which bits to slow mo, you don't have to have the whole clip slow mo! ;)
