60D - SmallHD DP6 vs. Marhsall V-LCD70XP, et al.

Using the smallhd and its great. It has a preset that automatically adjust the output to fill the screen on record. I don't know about the 60d, but on a 5d (without full 1080 out), it scales back down to 1080p when not recording. I thought the 7d was the only one that didn't change upon pressing record. So in play mode, small 1080p zoomed out screen, once you hit record, it zooms in and fills the screen, but in sd.

Too small? Just goes to show you how everyone's perception in this world is different.... The Canon 60d has a 3" screen and I can use that perfectly. Anything bigger than that as the smallHD monitors is more than fine.

I use the little Marshall 5.5 HDMI; the SmallDP was out of stock and I needed something. But it's a decent little screen. Don't like the AA batteries that much (I keep a lot of rechargeables with this) and you have to be careful not to turn it on when you pack it away.

But it's a nice sized screen for my needs; for DSLRs I tend to use a loupe 99% of the time anyway and get great focus. But having a calibrated reference is very cool.

I have the DP6 with 7D and it was the best thing I've ever bought. Rarely now do I have the 'am I in focus, am I not?' that comes with DSLR shooting and fast lenses, and the false colour scale is worth it's weight in gold for exposing properly, even just having it as reference is unbelievably useful. Since getting it two months ago, I've only used my Letus Hawk once and it felt like I'd got cataracts using it, steamed up really quick, found it awfully difficult to see where the focus point was and made me have to go back to remembering each lens' individual focusing style, if that makes sense.
The DP6 auto scale is really useful, although obviously the 7D does this better than other cameras due to less downscaling when you hit record. Not tried it on 60D but if it's like the 550D then it looks a little odd in comparison to 7D when in full screen mode due to upressing the picture. Still much much much better than Marshall 5" LCD, and if you think 5.6" isnt big enough for on camera then have fun carrying around something bigger. Off camera is a different story and you wouldn't want less than 17" for video village viewing

I've never been on any set where the on-camera monitor was smaller than 7" and I don't think it was an issue of having "fun" carrying it as you put it. It's just the way it is. Further, I've often seen monitor's smaller than 17" for video village with no problems at all.
