So as stated...the 60D has been out for 7 months...should I wait for an updated version??

I thought about getting the T3i, but I like the feel of the 60D much, much better!

The t3i with battery grip gives it a beefier feel. As posted in another thread, you better hurry up and buy, because the prices are going up fast,. Pretty soon the 60d, will be about a half a million. :)

oh yeah i did see that battery grip at B&H...seems like it would help out for sure! thanks for your input!

Price increases notwithstanding, there will always be a "next, greatest thing" waiting right around the corner. If you wait for the next, greatest thing, you'll be waiting forever.

Go ahead any buy what you need right now. You'll be able to use it for a good, long while.

The newer version (70D?) is at least another 5-6 months off, assuming they update this camera every year like they do with the Rebel series. Even so, I wouldn't hope for anything too extraordinary in that camera. Have a look at Canon's release cycle and you'll see that te more expensive cameras got video capabilities first, and then they trickled down the line to the 550D. My guess is something similar will happen with the 2nd generation with the Rebel/60D lines not seeing an upgraded image processor/better video quality until about a year after we see a new 5D.

I got the 550D when it came out and sold it for the 60D. Although the 60D is a much better camera I did loose $400 in the process and they produce exactly the same HD image. If you plan to upgrade what ever you get now I would recommended looking for a good used 550 and wait for the next series that may have better image control than this generation. If I sell my 60D in 6 more months I stand to loose another $400 more or less. These camera bodies are pretty disposable and loose value very quickly. I only got $600 for my 550D with the kit lens so there are deals to be had.
