5D MKIII specs

Well it has-

60p 720p
a better codec
better high ISO perf
less rolling shutter
weatherproofing
headphone jack and adjustable recording level in live view

for me it comes down to-
is the codec good enough?
is aliasing/moire acceptable?
is rolling shutter acceptable?

I also want a dynamic range and high ISO boost.
This. But I'm getting the feeling that it won't be much better than a 5DII with VAF5DII and ML. I am underwhelmed with this announcement.

We'll see about the moire/aliasing. If that's fixed and it gets GH2 resolved detail then I'm on board for a body.

Still have an entire set of EF glass just for this reason. If it's not up to GH2 standard (or at least close) then, I guess I'll be playing with the C300 more. No other worthy full frame options.

I must be turning into a stills guy ... when I read the specs and saw that the speedlites are going from 2 groups infrared to 5 groups radio I was overjoyed. It will roll out to the other models - must now sell my 580's

That's the key to be or not a deal breaker.

For me also

EDIT: actually, seeing as how I own a 5dII and a 7D, and generally only shoot on one at a time, I'll probably sell both and upgrade to the III. But I'll be taking a good look at what Nikon is up to before I do

Ok it does 91Mbit/s ALL-I 24/25/30p 1080p and 80Mbit/s 60/50p 720p

Confirmed on the 91 Mbps for 1080 using ALL-I.

I'm still not finding much info on ALL-I. What does anyone know? (other than the intraframe part, obviously) 4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4, or some unique Canon thing? 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit?

"The video output specifications are essentially unchanged in terms of resolution and framerate (1080p30 maximum), but Canon says the processing is improved to minimise moiré and other artefacts, and has included the higher quality All-I and IPB interframe compression options introduced with the EOS-1D X. What you don't get though, is the uncompressed output over HDMI seen in the latest Nikon models."
@kholi
maybe this is just an early review but it looks like it wont resolve as much details based on this review.

ISO 50. Nice!

"... It offers a standard ISO range of 100-25600, expandable down to ISO 50 (with the loss of a stop of highlight range) and right up to 102,400. ..."

Aside from the GH2 hacks and how used to that madness we've all become, 91mbps is freakin RAD!!!!! (if for real). I can't wait to see what they roll out tomorrow video-wise.

hell yeah....but I'm not writing off the D4 yet.

wow that video makes it look like the 24-70mm II is the new kit lens

I read a month or so ago that it would be. I think maybe at canonrumors. Either way, it's going to be a HUGE price jump for the kit if it's true... and unless you're a serious stills photog who always has to have the latest and greatest, not worth it in my opinion

As said, compensation of lack of HDMI. We'll see but that's promising indeed.

That's not encouraging, was hoping for a clean 1080 full frame camera this year, guess we'll see. I'm surprised there's no sample videos out yet.

Until to see them side by side, it will be difficult to guess. There's a difference of price, despite HDMI (but vs. fair codec?), ISO response? aliasing/moiré face to face? Softer D4 against sharper 5DIII?

EDIT -- I bet Jim Jannard is happy tonight :-) It would even be funny to see you posting here after so long, Jim. I place my best bets you'll read this thread if you're not over my shoulder already :P

Engadget confirmed that the kit lens will be the boring old 24-105 f4 L.

Not exciting news for video users. Also the price on that 17-50 L II is absurd. And no IS?! Truly shameful.

I wouldn't get too excited over the codec just yet, not until I see some MOV files for myself.
