5D MKIII specs

cinema5D have a poll on glass. 50% of people shoot with EOS glass. 19% Zeiss. And us Leica freaks don't even get a mention, we're in the other 10% category. Anyone who knows anything about glass knows that Leica-R glass smokes the competition. I bought mine when I read Shane Hurlbut compare them to panny primo's. Mine are 20-40 years old. I used to shoot with Nikon ai which are nice but the Leica's are stunning. Anyone complaining about IQ should look at their glass.

If you like the R-glass, try the M-glass. Even sharper. Sharper than Hasselblad in fact.
The only reason I bought a Gh2 with it's crummy resolution.

Like my 35 M 1.4? Yes, M glass is like holding jewels. My 35 M F/2 is 40 years old and will kill anything you buy EOS in the last 5 years. When I bought it I paid market used for $850. It since appreciated and down nearing $1500. Try that with some Nikors, EOS, or sigmas.

If you put it this way.

Soft+Soft= Softer. Soft+(-)Soft= Less Softer. It's not something I made up. It's something I'm seeing with my 24-105 vrs my 50 R Leica.

Can you post that in motion as high res as possible on Vimeo for people to watch/download?

And this is the first time I've actually agreed with Andrew on something, but his entire post was just about spot on (save a few things...)

Dusty give it up mate...why push up the price of the Leica's ;) I've been sharing my knowledge of vintage primes and anamorphic glass for 3 years. You can pick up a 40yr old takumar for $100 and it will give any modern zoom a run for its money (except the wides). There's tonnes of info over at cinema5D and mflenses.com. We're having enough issues with bodies, lets not get into glass. I do think the projection and glass talk is valid though.

It's a grab from I-frame Kholi.

The Leica R in particular. That was a question I had, how much of a difference glass would make, so I'm interested in seeing that.

FYI…I've got two 5DIII bodies on my desk right now, thanks to Texas Media Systems. I'll be testing them out tomorrow, so if there's anything in particular people want to see, hit me up here or via PM.

Dude, there are all sorts of "jewels" out there. My point is that lots of stuff is seen though the 24-105. It a nice lens, but not the second coming. I have a $60 yashica matte that will knock the socks off of most M glass. But again, my point is what are you looking at and what was on the camera? Youtube material shot at night with the cruddy 16-35L version 1 shot wide open? Crap lens!

By the way, Local Rental houses in LA are smoking something: Samys camera = 225/day to rent. Belair camera 175/day + 3500.00 deposit to rent.

Out of their minds, FAR out.

it's hard to describe but when I got my first Leica I took a shot of the crap on my desk (a very nicely lit desk) and compared it to a shot with a nikon ai and it just popped. It just looked like a frame from a film rather than a happy snap of a messy desk...magic fairy dust. I was sold and replaced all my nikkors with Leitz. Still have the 180mm ED.

Nah, I've played with Leicas before, I know and I definitely agree. Just wanted to see it in motion.

At one point I had about 30 vintage primes and anamorphics. Cut down to the primo 15 now. Leica R, iscoramas, a couple of Russians, and a pentax k 50mm f/1.2.

Are there any good and cheap anamorphic lenses left? Haven't the prices for those lenses gone up dramatically?

Yeah you really gotta do your homework with glass...might as well shoot with a blanket over the lens otherwise. Great glass doesn't have to be expensive. Some Russian primes are very good...some are really crap. mflenses.com is a great resource.
