The LCD on the Canon EOS M doesn't move and the 3" area is too small a viewing space for dependable focusing.
The going rate for a decent 7" external HDMI monitor is $199.
But for $239, I could get a Lilliput 5" monitor with focus peaking and zebras, (something the EOS M doesn't have without Magic Lantern/which I have tried but not interested in). I would find zebras and peaking on a monitor to be very useful.
The 5" LCD with peaking/zebras vs. a 7" with more viewing space/but without those functions - which would be worth it?
There are 7" Lilliput monitors, but this is probably getting into $ territory I don't want to spend, (unless others strongly suggest them?)
