4K will require hardware update

Just an information friends : in Europe (well, in France) the V.3 update is 500€ flat, shipping costs included and with no extra VAT.

it's free if you can provide the proof that you bought the HXR-IFR. If you are planning to buy this recorder in any case
it will be a good idea to buy it first. Get in contact with Sony via sonysos@eu.sony.com and they will guide you through
the process. It took a little more than one week: recieved the package on Thursday, UPS PickUp Friday, return Monday
next week. I can confirm 500,- € from Germany too. Fee has to be paid before Sony ships the camera back.

In the US: $400 plus sales tax.

You pay shipping to Sony center. They will probably cover shipping back to you if you ask.

Or you can just drop the camera off and pick it up. Same $400 plus tax applies. Mine was done speedily, in under one hour, at Teaneck service center.

I was wondering about this since I don't want to be without my camera for more than a couple days. So I could show up with my camera and walk away with it upgraded a couple hours later? You actually picked yours up an hour after dropping it off?

Noah, it was less than an hour in my case. Your mileage will vary of course.

Sony did promise "a couple hours" procedure.

No you cannot just show up - according to Sony, you need to email them for an appointment. Then they email you back with a form that you need to fill out and send to them. Then they schedule your upgrade and email you with the date/time.

Here's the Sony-provided list of contact numbers of the service centers in the US that perform the 4K upgrade on FS700: http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/show-h...html?PID=I:35mm_NEXFS700:NEXFS700#/fs700t1_15

True, I forgot that the update is free for those who have bought the interface...

I'm curious to know how many they will "manage" to sell... I bet you can count it on both hands ! (take no offense but I'm pretty sure it won't sell very well)

I think most will, yes.

I mean, if you have the money for an IFR+AXS-R5 plus a couple of 512Gb AXSM memory card, why not put a little more money and get an F5 instead ?

it's only a little more the first sight. You will need the AXS-R5 plus a couple of 512Gb AXSM memory cards too, also a viewfinder. That will sum up fast.
