4K Samsung NX 1 now available for pre-order

I also like what I see so far...but I dont wanna get excited yet...we need to see some proper test...Im waiting for the final review + footage from EOSHD...
...that cow looks gorgeous though...hahaha!

Looks really bad...and its strange, given all the hype about the backlit sensor and its advantages for low light! We ll see...
I don't know that it looks bad quite yet, but the 1DC is a bit better. Really though, 6400iso is still quite a high iso to get unless the sensor base iso is crazy high too. at this point I still prefer a more moderate iso of 400-1600 base. What is the base iso of the Samsung?

Btw. apparently there never will be a Metabones Speedbooster for the NX mount - it's apparently not possible:

Again, my biggest question remains about lenses for the Samsung mount. Investing in native lenses confines you to what the offerings are and it's a commitment to the Samsung roadmap.

I was hoping for a clean 3200 iso from that camera but apparently this is not the case according to EOSHD review. But it sure is a really interesting camera!

Ah well. Yeah, this may not be the end all be all camera. But very cool to see a new kid on the block. For the price/size of a 4k s35 camera, it is pretty cool. Definitely a fun toy for those that have the money, and 4k internal for those that need it now. Aerial shots? Yes, please.

Yeah, I wasn't looking for A7S level of performance, but I was hoping for a decisively better low light performance compared to the GH4, and this is not enough. Too bad. But, I feel like this is Samsung's first serious challenge to the reigning DSLR video competitors, so I'm interested in seeing what they come up with next. It's a pass for me for the NX1, but I'm looking forward to what they can pull out with the NX2. The NX1 feels like a work in progress.

Would have really liked a speedbooster for Nikon or Canon but an active Canon EF to NX Adaptor would be very helpful.

I was was hoping the new sensor technology would help with low light shooting but from the review it appears to be in the same neighbourhood as the GH4....which is not too good.

The onus is on Samsung now because it appears that Metabones is in the Sony camp and Samsung and Sony don't often see eye-to-eye (though it's worse for Samsung and Apple ... lots of bad blood between those two ... meaning, forget Prores without the third party conversion software here).

BTW, Samyang makes quite a few decent lenses for the NX mount under the Bower/Rokinon/Samyang labels. Both are Korean companies, so one might have to look there first. Of course, Samyangs are all manuals.

From the faq I linked to earlier, it appears that it has nothing to do with Metabones throwing in with Sony, but that a speedbooster is simply technically impossible on the NX mount, to do with flange distance and stuff.

I think this is going to be an issue for Samsung in the video community going forward. Native lenses are a larger unknown than the brand itself. I agree about the 6k & 240fps. Samsung should know that with equal performance to the GH4 they need a hook for people to choose the fringe system. 6K and 240fps might be a decent enough reason to add this camera to your kit. Without the hook they are part of the comparison but probably not the choice.

I am no engineer but, since I had stared at the "Dark Side of the Moon" cover a lot, I will raise an optics question.

There are various third party Nikon, Sony, Pentax to the NX mount adapters. Off reviews, most of them work fine in a manual mode. So, in an era where there are Ollo type clip-on's for iPhones, the Sony QX series, various extenders for the fixed lens camcorders, etc., why isn't it possible to create anything to anything else adapters/extenders/teleconverters period?

I'd guess that that thought they had that hook but it's slipping away from them a little.

BTW, I wonder if they will also make an interchangeable or even fixed lens camcorder with this sensor and a full complement of features a la JVC LS-300.

Is the 240fps and 6k something that could be added in a firmware update? Are there any small cameras (like a G4 or LX100 type) that can shoot 240 fps, even if it is only 720P?
