GH4 4k Monitors? post up

Are you guys using these as computer screens or playback monitors. The Dell as a playback monitor is only 30hz.

computer screen mostly , my playback is a 60 inch 1080p pioneer kuro plasma. i have a decklink mini card for 1080p 10bit YUV output through Edius NLE

are you outputting 10-bit to the Kuro?? I think Kuro is 12-bit... never thought of using it like that. Did you calibrate it? (I have one also and love it!)

the pioneer 141 FD can accept a 10bit signal but it still is an 8bit panel. I had it ISF calibrated when i purchased it. $450.00 , Kevin Miller ( big timer in home theater calibration and CNET reviews) came to my studio and used a 20,000 dollar meter. I bought an eyeone pro and got very close results that i wouldnt see with my eye.

the blacks on 141 get down to .001, and my whites are at 35 foot candles, im soo happy with this old high end purchase. it plays 24 frames per sec perfectly.

i will only replace the kuro with OLED now and waiting for prices on 4k OLED panels to fall. I love INKY blacks

This just in.... Film at 11....
(taking it out new ON LOCATION for first use - but head will be elsewhere on the shoot tonight)

My report:

Wow! This monitor looks fantastic!
WOW! THIS GH4 CAMERA IS FANTASTIC!!! I think seeing it in true 4K exceeded my expectations just a little bit - I mean I figured it was good, but WOW, every frame paused just looks like a STILL PHOTO!
Totally awesome, I highly recommend 4k monitoring. $600 hooked right up to DISPLAY PORT, 60hz

Ran it through all the LCD tests at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ and it exceeded my previous nice HD screen on every test. Very happy, can not WAIT to edit GH4 4k footage now!!! I think I'll be up most of the night just gawking at footage I've already shot!

You're killing me! Hmmm.... I think I might have $600 under my mattress.....

totally worth it. feels like my great camera just DOUBLED in quality. And the "noise" at 4k kinda resembles "grain" to me. Even some bad shots I have, seem more grainy than noisy TO ME.

two other benefits I never REALLY thought of (yeah, I'm slow)

Opened up Sony Vegas Editor and had WAAAAY MORE lanscape to mess on! Technically 3 more screens worth. Wow, so much more fun with all that real estate available. Note to self: get better READER glasses

And two: hooked the camera up with spare HDMI cable and I get INSTANT FEEDBACK for adjustments. I can test settings right there. Yep, deviateing from zero adds visual noise, you can WATCH the NR settings in action, test out sharpness etc, right there live. I'm relearning my camera.

Yea, 5K screen the way to go for a monitor. Waiting for the Koreans to launch the affordable but good versions!

Yep, that monitor is 4x the price. And luckily, I suffer from the bred-out characteristic known as "Contentment" :) Not very profitable for companies but keeps me happier. Then again, "happiness" isn't good for the economy either :D

I'm getting the Samsung U28D590D next week. Will post up my reactions.
UHD 4k, 60hz from Display Port

Are you getting UHD @ 60Hz over the DisplayPort? Do you know if it's MST (Multiple Stream Transport) or SST (Single Stream Transport)? What graphics card are you using?

FYI: The new Nvidia GTX 980 cards have a HDMI 2.0 port that supports SST UHD 60Hz.

Getting 60hz from DISPLAY PORT, yes, and 30hz at HDMI from the GH4 camera. Have not tried HDMI from the graphics card... that should be 30hz as well. I have the Nvidia TITAN (not the latest titan, probably the first version) and am not doing SLI

A quick google found this, but I have no idea if it is correct or not

Note that the U28D590D is the 1st 3840x2160 @ 60Hz monitor that does it over SST (most other monitors do it via MST, or 1920x2160 x 2)
