If you use 4K monitor or TV, please post up what it is and your experience with it.
Prices are dropping, new gear is coming out, and I want in.
Asus, Samsung, Dell, Seiki... oh my!

hahhaha sure, Ryan!

Asus and Samsung have released recently, Dell has 3 4ks I think. And that old Seiki for $500 seems the best deal right now - 30hz 4k though, which may or may not be a big deal.
I think the next few months will get interesting. Then there is always the multi-thousand dollar stuff studios and TV stations buy with petty cash...

It seems like all the cheap 4K monitors are 30Hz. I think that slow refresh rate would look terrible not to mention eye strain. And if you're shooting & editing 23.976p footage then how would that look?

With my old Sony 42 incher in its death throes, I couldn't pass up the Monterey Costco's floor sample $900 deal (normally $1600) on a Hisense 55T88UV TV - UHD @ 30hz - with 3 year warranty past mftrs' 2 year for only $89 more, and in-home service. No 4K material yet, but my GH3 1080p is pretty spectacular on it once dialed in, and good quality 720 broadcast footage, as well as old TCM B/W's scale up nicely at 8' viewing distance. Can't wait for the GH4 from Glazer's, Seattle.

Samsung has a new popular 28" 4K monitor that does 60hz for $600, it's a TN panel though so not good for color work and it will have poor viewing angles compared to an IPS panel. But if you are doing real color work in 4k get ready to pay $3k+ for IPS @ 60hz.

Got my Dell 2414 UHD monitor for under 1k, they had a sale. Haven't done much critical work on it yet, but it's IPS, and 60hz with the new mac OS update.

I'm getting the Samsung U28D590D next week. Will post up my reactions.
UHD 4k, 60hz from Display Port

Another vote for the Dell UP2414Q. Gorgeous display that'll do 4K @ 60hz and is well under $1000. A far better value than Apple's dated Thunderbolt display (which I really hope gets refreshed this year).

hey, what can I expect to see in GH4 4k footage after seeing it on HD only? Does it reveal more real sensor noise, or show off how good GH4 can REALLY look?

I'm using the Dell UP2414Q. Very nice display. Calibration report comes from the factory, and it was actually dialed in quite good. In combination with the SpyderPro, I feel pretty confident doing color work.

Joe, does it reveal more weaknesses or strengths in the GH4 footage? I mean like, is NOISE at 200 iso more obvious in a pixel matching screen? Or maybe it is actually less real noise?
Looking forward to finally SEEING what I am shooting...

im using 2 asus 28 inch 4k monitors side by side. the amount of space via editing is amazing now. the color is way better than the samsung 850 led bussiness monitors i was using previously. and the viewing and light bleed is better , but not perfect.

Are you guys using these as computer screens or playback monitors. The Dell as a playback monitor is only 30hz.

as I understand things:

- GH4 does not output rec2020. This doesn't mean we can't stretch it out in post and let the algorhythms fill in the inbetween color ranges, but.... (see next line)
- most (any?) monitors and TVs are not rec2020 yet. maybe a couple expensive ones out there, and hopefully more and more soon. Trying to research this, finding very little, except 2020 is the year they expect to implement it, thus the name. Not worried about that right now for myself, just want 4k. And I could be wrong as well.
- the cheapest 4k dell is 30hz ($600), the next level up ($999) does 60hz through DISPLAY PORT connection. As does the Samsung I'm getting. most are HDMI 1.4 stuck at 30hz.... HDMI 2.0 which is unreleased, does 4k at 60hz

I don't know if my NVIDIA TITAN can drive rec.2020, but by the time 2020 goes mainstream, there will be newer cards and newer monitors as well.
That's all I know, I don't claim to be right, life bleeding on the edge.

I purchased the Sharp PN-K321 with Igzo panel when it first came out. I think the Asus PQ321Q uses the same panel. Configuring it was a PITA because the displayport connection kept dropping out and it appears as two separate monitors if you want to get 60Hz refresh. More importantly, dynamic range was poor and the images never looked good, so I returned it. My Dell U3014 has much better visual quality, even though the resolution is lower.

I am looking forward to the recently announced Eizo Flexscan EV3237 monitor with IPS panel.

Given my bad experience with the Sharp, I'm going to wait for some positive reviews before trying it.
