Right now there is no way of really delivering even 1080/60p, however Panasonic TM700 is one of the best selling consumer camcorders on the market, so who is to say 4K will not sell? Its like two and a half years ago a lot of people were saying DSLR's are not going to sell for video- guess what? sold a **** load of them.
At some point resolution stops playing any role. I can't tell with stills if you have 12 or 18MP, but what counts then is DR and color saturation. I think instead of creating 2K or 4K consumer cameras I would like to see 10-12F stop DR as norm, and 444 color space. With cards and SSD dropping in price and storage not being such a huge issue, I would also rather see a shift towards less compression.

Not really. It's 8-bit, fairly heavily compressed 4:2:2. I'd like to see 10-, 12-, or even 16-bit 4:4:4 at 4K using a more advanced compression scheme, most probably wavelets. I think Cineform is on the right track.Isn't that what Canon is doing with the 50Mb 4:2:2 higher DR XF300/3005 and XF100/105 series cams?
To be honest, it just puzzles me how no one has released an affordable S35 1080p 50mb 4:2:2 camera at this point.
The first that does this will sell a truckload of cameras.
