4K JVC Consumer Camera with 3D at CES 2011- Red Scarlet blushes...

That is a 4K broadcast camera capable of a live feed.

I wonder if they will launch the 56" 4K LCD they mention in the same press release?

Right now there is no way of really delivering even 1080/60p, however Panasonic TM700 is one of the best selling consumer camcorders on the market, so who is to say 4K will not sell? Its like two and a half years ago a lot of people were saying DSLR's are not going to sell for video- guess what? sold a **** load of them.

I think the thread title is misleading unless I missed something. Where does JVC talk about a 4K consumer camera? Price won't be anywhere near "consumer".

I don't own one.... but can't you play it back in slow motion? (something consumers love).

As for the DSLR folk, I only saw huge waves of excitement and enthusiasm... Video on DSLR was being asked for the day live mode came out.

At some point resolution stops playing any role. I can't tell with stills if you have 12 or 18MP, but what counts then is DR and color saturation. I think instead of creating 2K or 4K consumer cameras I would like to see 10-12F stop DR as norm, and 444 color space. With cards and SSD dropping in price and storage not being such a huge issue, I would also rather see a shift towards less compression.

Bravo, +1

That's a good point, however for digital projection it makes sense to shoot at the same resolution as what its being output as, otherwise you have to perform some pretty horrific resizing and sharpening.

I can't see there being much need for advancements over 4k until consumer based products get to the same standard. And I don't just mean the same resolution television screens and players, computer hardware will need to advance, internet speeds... It all needs advancements if 4k is to become the standard in 5-10 (-15?) years.

Isn't that what Canon is doing with the 50Mb 4:2:2 higher DR XF300/3005 and XF100/105 series cams?

Not really. It's 8-bit, fairly heavily compressed 4:2:2. I'd like to see 10-, 12-, or even 16-bit 4:4:4 at 4K using a more advanced compression scheme, most probably wavelets. I think Cineform is on the right track.

JVC: Digital Imaging Product Announcement *INVITATION ONLY*

Should be interesting day today...

Buckle up!

... or Big Dud?

Appears JVC is simply showing a 4K PROTOTYPE.. nice try!

Here are highlights of the JVC 2011 International CES exhibit (Central Hall, booth #8226).

• Technology exhibits of a 4K2K camcorder and a High-Speed Multi Purpose Camera, both incorporating JVC’s recently announced LSI for high-speed image processing.

• Professional and consumer products and technologies for natural, high-quality 3D experiences. 3D products and technologies on display include a 3D image processor (2D-to-3D converter) with current commercial applications, polarized 3D flat panel displays, 3D D-ILA home theater projectors (DLA-X9/X7/X3), and the world’s first Full HD 3D camcorder for consumers.

LOL another year with another JVC 4K prototype.
Instead of investing in 3D-whatever-hype-o-rama with fuzzy picture, they should invest in solid and real 4K camera which deliver rich pictures!

To be honest, it just puzzles me how no one has released an affordable S35 1080p 50mb 4:2:2 camera at this point.

The first that does this will sell a truckload of cameras.

Affordable is a relative term. If by affordable you mean under $5k, maybe it isn't technologically and economically feasible to do so at this point. A few more Moore's law cycles and that will no doubt change.

I think they wait for NAB... I dont know what is politic in JVC, but Canon have politic to introduce consumer cameras at CES and profesional cameras at NAB. Every year they do that so, so maybe its same for JVC.
I hope s35 will happen for Canon XL H1 wich replacment is comming soon.

And sorry for bad english :D
