.45x vs .7x wide angle lens converter???

Maybe, maybe not. It's impossible to tell without testing. All wide lenses perform differently. Some are much more distorted than others. Some have better coatings which help reduce lens flair. The biggest difference here is you will be able to sell the Canon when you decide to upgrade later, but the cheapo will most likely end up in a drawer.
58mm is not that flexable. The 18-55 is one of the few wide lenses with such a small thread. The Tamron 17-50mm has a 67mm thread, The Canon 17-55 f2.8 has a 77mm filter thread, The Canon 15-85mm has a 72mm thread, the Canon 18-135 has a 67mm thread. You may want to upgrade to one of these lenses and it would be nice if your new wide adapter would fit one of them. It will pay in the long run to buy a larger diameter wide adapter, then when you buy a better wide lens you may just need a ring adapter.
I bought the Century X.7 77mm thread a while back to go on a Canon video camera with a 72mm thread. I have used it since on every other format I have including that 16mm Zeiss Distagon in my avatar picture which is only a 49mm thread.
My only regret is that I didn't get an 82mm thread at the time. In wide adapters, bigger is better.
