40Mbps AVCHD High Reliability Patch

Are you using a fast shutter speed? Movement normally results in lower, not higher bitrates unless you are using a fast shutter.

Movement resulting in lower bitrate ? This doesn't make sense, since you have to code the changes, while there is very few difference with no movement.
To answer your question, it is failing even with gentle movement, so I guess this is card's fault.

When the shutter is slow (eg., 1/60), then movement causes motion blur (ie., loss of resolution) which reduces the amount of information to be encoded. But when the shutter is fast (eg., 1/500), then much less blur and movement increases the amount of information to be encoded.

Yes it will. Most movies are shot with a 180 degree shutter - which is the equivalent of 1/50 at 24 fps. Some films, like Private Ryan, use high shutter speeds to get that strobing look. The "video look" is typically a result of just leaving the shutter open - you would get that if you used 1/60 with the 720p modes (like SH mode). Its a tradeoff between the ultra smooth video look vs the strobing Private Ryan look. It all depends on what you want. Rember though, 99% of movies are shot with the equivalent of using a 1/50 shutter at 24 fps - which makes that the esthetic choice most people associate with cinema.

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the input

My many years in photography have only determined that their is quite a learning curve to understanding videography.

Thank you.

Yeah, I went through exactly the same thing, coming from a photography background. This is a really good place to learn all this new stuff, so you've come to the right place.

The best news I heard all day

The best news I heard all day

I tried everything to use 24p, but always ended up with the error message. I'm presently using Lpowell's settings with the 24p unticked.

Try Lpowell's settings with Native 24p checked with the Overall Bitrate set to 86000000. You'll need a class 10 card though because this results in a write rate of almost 14MBs, I haven't had time to test other cards yet. I'm sure others will do some testing too.

I think I may have a bit of a breakthrough on the Native 24p issue
Sorry, but my initial tests with the High Reliability Patch modified with cbrandin's new Native 24p settings produced SD card write-speed failures in 1080p24 FHD mode. Stayed tuned, there may be a way to make this idea work...

Yeah, I'm going to run lots more tests tomorrow. I'm completely baffled why this is working for me but not Lpowell. Hmmm... the mystery is afoot!

A basic question...

A basic question...

each time I am modifying my hack, I'm changing the modified firmware progressively:
GH1__135.BIN...GH1__136.BIN, etc.. because it has to have a higher number.

How far up is it suggested that the modified numbers reach? because I want to experiment with what you are working out, I am going to keep with the increments.

Also, can I restore the original Panasonic 132 firmware, and then start my sequence all over again? I just wanted to check before I blow something, and not after.

Thanks so much.

In the newest PTool you can check a box to make it unnecessary to increment the version. Check the official thread and FAQ.
