4 channels of audio

This is probably the simplest of questions but one I can't figure out from the owner's manual....
If you want to record 4 channels of audio on the 300, do you have to use the Unislot wireless receiver for two channels and the XLR inputs for the other two channels?

Thanks!

Yes, without the wireless receiver there's only the 3 XLR inputs.

This just got me thinking, though... I wonder if it'd be possible for a manufacturer to make an adapter for the Unislot to two (or even just one) additional wired inputs? Even if they could only fit 1/4" TRS or mini-XLR inputs, they could be easily adapted. Would be a handy way to get an extra input, and you could have all four channels going without running up to the front XLR.

I suppose the market for such a device is probably too small to be worthwhile, but you never know...

I had thought of this and a bit of DIY could mount two XLR's on the plastic plate provided and then wire them to the D-type wireless slot connector.

Never got round to it though but it shoudlnt be a huge job for a proper service guy!

Good idea... A bit beyond what I can do, but if anyone's interested I was curious and tracked down the pinout for the Unislot connector. Looks like a pretty standard DB25 connector, shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of one and wire something up...

I'm sure they're line level .. so you'd need a pre-amp of one sort
or another... I'm surprised they're not balanced... but at line
level maybe that's not as important.

Hi Jeff they are balanced as you can see on the spec sheet connections for screen, Hot and Cold!

That sheet also only shows one channel used so it may be a different wiring diagram for the 300/301, unless connectors 14,15 and 16 are for ch 2

This is a scan of the page from my HPX301 manual:

As Jeff says these may be line level but most G2 radio mic should be able to give enough level to suit.
This may affect the five year warranty though?

It's easy to make if you don't mind haveing a couple of male XLR hanging out of the slot hole. I did and it works fine except for the fact that you have to use auto level control on 3 & 4 if you want to keep input level control on 1 & 2. So, if you can get a tone from a FOH mixer and that mixer can keep these levels under -12 on a separate buss it works fine.

Yes, it would be nice if someone would make an XLR slot adapter, but, as you said, the demand is very small.

CRACKED! I wired up a d sub25 connector with some leads off my Sennheiser G3's. With the AF out set to minus 6 audio is right in the ball park & sounds good.

Its not a bad hack....
