$375 for GH1 with LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm Lens w/ Panasonic EPP !

I finally picked up the deal today. It was almost a Russian Roulette type situation to finally get the $375 price to go through.

GH1 WE0L, 1250 ISO, 1/60s, FHD, Standard -2, 0, 0, -2, WB 2500K
Nikkor 50mm 1.4 Ai-s. Fully opened.

My hackable GH1 showed visible FPN starting at ISO 800. This presumably unhackable GH1 unit showed very little bandings at ISO1250!!! I love it. I wish it were hackable, but I'm pretty happy with this new unit.

Would this candle shoot be similar to using a flashlight on a skin tone? If so, then looks pretty good. I found fpn to be the worst when shining a flashlight onto someone.

The candle light is warmer than flash light. 2500K is the lowest WB value in GH1. Warmer the light Lower the WB.

My unhackable GH1 has the ugly FPN when EV reading is -2 and there is no hard light. When subject was lit with hard light, it gave much subdued FPN. That's good enough for me.

I know hard light gives more contrast.. I think that might be the key in low lighting video. Hard light is from stronger and/or more distanced light source. e.g. small candle flame

Bottom line is that it's totally worth to get GH1 + 14-42 at the discounted price.

I thought $499 seemed like a great price! Thank goodness I came back to this thread, because I had no idea I could still get the $375 price!!! I came and read some previous pages and came across a post by a Panasonic Representative explaining how to get it at the $375 price. How awesome!

I totally couldn't resist that price and pulled the trigger! I'm putting my Canon HV20 up on Ebay soon. I will have no use for it now that I'll have a Canon T2i and Panasonic GH1 now. :D I'm looking forward to doing some direct comparisons. I hope the GH1 compares favorably. I have custom made picture styles with the EOS utility for my T2i, so I'm hoping I can match the dynamic range, colors and overall look.

A few things I'm looking forward to with the Gh1 is the swivel LCD, longer record times and 1/3rd stop ISOs.

So, has it been verified that this GH1 is unhackable? And how long before the 14-42 lens will ship?

In FHD mode shouldn't the shutter be 50 since the cmos is sampled at 24fps? Most 24p video cameras use a shutter of 48 or 50. We should only use a shutter of 60 when shooting 60p.

Actually, when shooting 60p, you'd want to shoot closer to 1/120, but just like shooting at 1/50 when shooting 24p, it's a matter of choice. The reason to choose a shutter speed that is approximately double the record fps is to emulate a 180 degree shutter angle of film cameras. Depending on the electricity where you live, the shutter speed can also affect how lights affect the image.

Nonetheless, no one says that you HAVE to stick to these shutter speeds. You can increase or decrease the shutter speed if you're going for a specific look.

Bit the bullet last night and ordered mine. What an amazing deal. If I still end up getting a GH-2 when they are finally in stock, I will most likely sell the GH-1, but maybe not.

Shutter speed is another can of worms. Don't feel like digressing.

GH13 hack doesn't turn so so video into nice one. It simply enhances in HD quality. But I gotta admit that I want it to be hacked... one day.

That is only true for slow motion. Normal 60p should also use a shutter of 60. 60p has the same temporal resolution as interlaced 60i which also uses a normal shutter of 60. Shutter is not directly linked to the framerate.

Thank you for the examples. The 1080p24 footage looks beautiful. Just watching on youtube full screen on my 13"LCD using their 720p setting I didn't see any issues at all. Those are bright conditions but I thought the details even in the trees while panning held up pretty well. Good enough for anything I'll do with it. :)

arg. i tried in vain this morning to get the deal working, i can eventually grab the 375 price all the way through checkout, but im in canada and even with a changed address on my credit card, panasonic still will not accept...but weird thing happend in the middle of me trying.

the price dropped to 350 per camera.... wut? ya i was trying to get the deal and it popped up. 350 simple as that. but then i failed at getting that price to pass through to checkout cause i used my old account.

Panasonic - Your website sucks balls. u are a massive company, put some resources into NOT making it so bloody hard for us to buy your products.

I agree, I just logged in with my EPP account and it showed $375 then clicked on it and it showed $524.96 then back to $375 in the cart but I never have seen a $350 price.
