35 mm lenses on hpx500

Like you, I just yawn when I hear about these mythical relay lens. My suspicion is that they gave up on them.

I spoke to Hien Le of Letus yesterday and there will be two B4 relay lens models, followed by a 1/2" mount for EX3. They are real and they will be in production
shortly. It's been frustrating to wait this long while owning an Ultimate for five months. As an owner of a rental facility with Panasonic and Sony 2/3" cameras, I am not bored by the prospect of a B4 Relay Lens finally delivering.

Not to mention once the dirt cheap fixed and non fixed scarlet 2/3" come to fruition, whoever that is first to offer 2/3" 35mm adapter will have that lucrative market.

Dino I also have a rental business and I was really bored waiting for years (I thing its the third year from the first promise...) and back in March 2008 I build my first relay...since then I have got business over RED offering because of the relay/Varicam combo...

Now for at least a month Its shipping the rev2 of my B4 relay which is not designed only for Brevis... It has 72mm filter thread and has versions for all adapters... the relay is 7cm long on a Ultimate... models for S35 frame size and FF35... The most open aperture is 2.8...

Other manufactures, are trying to build a zoom lens with a high speed design in order to have one solution that fits all... Its really pushing the limits of optics... even Leica Summicron F0.96 doesn't perform well in F2... and its a prime not a zoom...

I really hope that the relay promised, will give the same performance that I got, but in F1.6 or even F2... in this case I will buy one also... it is a big thing to have 1 or even 2 stops more light efficiency!

But until then I gaining market share in my rental business... against RED, taking advantage of the nervous producer/postproduction syndrom...

Scarlet 3K 2/3" Body Only - 2/3" Mysterium-X sensor, 120 fps (150 fps burst) - sharing specs with Scarlet Fixed 8X in a smaller body. Fully compatible with all RED DSMC accessories, the 2/3" camera outperforms cameras 20 times its price. Able to accept a wide range of lens mounts, including mini-RED Primes, B4, C mount, PL, 35mm and more, depending on the interchangeable mount selected, the range of applications are endless. This is the camera that many asked for when the fixed lens Scarlet 2/3" was announced. We listened and we designed it for those that asked. For $2.5K.

the 2/3" Scarlet will already be able to use the same interchangeable PL/35MM mount along with the rest RED will be offering. I suppose someone could make an adapter for the fixed lens version, would it be worth it?

So its an F2.8... and later an F1.6 "with better contrast than F2.8"... so F2.8 will have the best performance at F4...

Hmm... what I already have is the F2.8, so I have to wait and see the F1.6...

What I get with my F2.8 is better than P+S by one stop... so similar results...

Actually, what Hien told me on the phone a few days ago is F1.8 for the short relay and F1.5 for the long relay, with better MTF for the latter as well as speed. These speeds, combined with the Letus Ultimate being faster than a P+S Pro35 relay and GG bode well for interiors.

Sorry after listen it few times I understand that he says F2.0... still the same comment remains I don't have any difference in contrast from F2.8 to F4, but I do have lower contrast if I push the design to F2... thats why I keep it to F2.8...

Martin-

How right you are!!!!

Here's to the New adapter-free age..where talk of relay lenses and "Franken-rigs" will be just an amusing part of our past.

ONWARD!!!!

Years and years and years of fact-free nonsense, and once it comes out..we've moved so far from the ancient test footage from the DVX100 that G35 STILL has on their site as the best they can offer.....and,who really cares?

Letus and Cinevate are being SO silent about relay lenses.......

This new thread of rumors with no facts to back them up just may be the "G35" of 2/3" adapters.

Okay, you have the facts, the Letus relays are real, so now you are saying they are obsolete. If you don't care about DOF adapters or relay lenses, why do you keep commenting about relay lens development and delivery dates?

I can assure you that those of us who own 2/3" cameras view these relays asanything but obsolete. If you don't like depth of field adapters, fine. But for those of us that do, and want the option to use them with a shoulder mount full size camera, this IS big news. It's good for the Pro35 to finally have some competition.

Your posts have added little to the discussion.

Well thing is the HPX500 produces a good enough image for low budget films - i mean theres no real disputing this i dont think. So having the option of using 35mm lenses on an HPX is a great option its not something that would get obsolete.

Those that say so just presume we could all go and use RED's or whatever. Well erm no thats just not the case. Having maximum versatility out of a great camera that could be used to produce beautiful cinematography for a low budget movie and be ready for a corporate shoot the next week with fast workflow/turnaround is much better.

Yeah take that you villain! and that ! And that!
