GH4 $300 Instant Rebate on YAGH Announced: $1997.99 - $300 = $1697.99 Texas Media Systems

I'ma wait until the warehouses are full of unsold stock, and they dump them at $150

How insanely overpriced is this? I wouldn't buy it for $150. I bought the extra battery grip for the GH3 for like $70, and considered it good value. But this? If at least it could power itself, but it can't even do that - FAIL. I think this was their first venture into this type of unit, and they've really laid an egg. I'll wait for version II or even III, for a future GH, and for it to have power and not be more expensive than the freakin camera its attached to. Give it power and bring the price to $300 and at least that's a start. Yeah, there'll always be people who will buy anything - you could set the price of this at $10K and someone would buy it - but for the average indie, I don't see it. I mean who is this aimed at? The DSLR crowd are by and large not going to be earning a living from the GH4, so asking for that kind of price is just completely la la land. I bet they sold a pitiful number of units.

To me, seemed like it was trying to aim at the PRO market with the SDI outputs. I suspect SDI is the higher end older broadcast gear. I thought the price was silly for what it actually did as well.
For the cost, I can get the Shogun that RECORDS INSIDE ITSELF, AND AND has a great monitor on it. The YAGH audio is fine, but should only run about $90 in the unit.
Seemed like a bridge to PRO gear: mounted on tripod, out to broadcast gear, looking buff - like REAL equpiment, not like a DSLR style toy. My opinion and perspective only.

In the past, I've really tried to look at this accessory with the attitude of "if you need pro gear, then it's worth the price." Pro gear isn't cheap - fact of life.

But the more I've seen this, and thought about it... Let's just say, I'd love to see someone take this thing apart and post images of the internals. I'm seriously wondering what can possibly be inside this gadget that causes it to cost more than the camera it attaches to.

Biggest difference between using the YAGH & the Shogun is one's been available for a about as long as the GH4 has & the other is delayed. For anyone who needs their functionality the decision's been simple.
