just bought 2x dual head 500w worklights for really cheap. total of 2000 watts!!!

2 of these
MWLT033.jpg

got some blue 3200k globes for them. the blue tinting takes away some of the power. but it's still bright :D

so here is some test footage at night time with them. without them, this room is black usually

not bad... amazing what some bounce card will do for you...

Try getting the Key a touch higher, it will sell the "overhead" dinner table light better..

timur - this is actually single point lighting. any higher and it starts to make them have severe raccoon eyes. i'm building a 2x36w flou kino-esk thing to mount on a c-stand to fill in the eyes. so then i can make it a bit higher maybe.

adam - thanks man.

cinelike gamma
cinelike matrix
detail -4
master ped i think was -4
25p
thin freq
shutter 250 degrees (1/40.5)

vimeo desatureted it and lowered the contrast a bit.

oh i know... im getting into the stark light now... its just a tast thing...

Then what you do is get a 60w "Reveal" bulb, which is approx 3200k, and wrapit up on Spunglass, and mount it right over the camera... it fills in the shadows like a ringlight, so it minimizes the raccon eyes while giving a shadowless fill.... have fun...

keep the fill AS CLOSE TO THE lens as possible....

That looked nice. I need to invest in lights. SGpro needs lots of it for me.

How old are you (Patrick)? I never saw your age, a photo of you or anything to indicate your age, but for some reason whenever you post I am under the impression you are somewhere between the age of 30 to 50. Am I off?

Oh damn, I just watched the video of your dad making stuff in the kitchen for your 20th birthday. Boy was I off.

yeah i turned 20 in april. i feel old.

don't know why you thought i was 30-50.. maybe because my work is so ridiculously awesome and i'd need to be that old to do such good work... or maybe coz my work is boring and full of old people :D

it's a bit funny coz i've got heaps of shorts and tests on my comp that feature me quite prominently but i've only posted the stuff without me in it. except for that one movie where it was just me.. http://vimeo.com/890364

i think most of the people here on dvxuser are in their 20's. it's the right age for cheap indie cinema!!!

timur - i'm using a 3000k 40w CFL (aprox 200w equivalent) in a chinese lantern at the moment for that very purpose. didn't use it in this test though..

benji - the lantern is your average sized one. it was the large one in the shop though.

the globe is a fluorescent so it's not too hot. it does get too hot to touch after an hour, but by no means hot enough to set something on fire.... at least i hope so

i plan on buying a HUGE 70w daylight CFL soon... that will be cool :)

thanks J.R.

It was cool, Patrick.
Hey mate, I got the same lights only 2x500w. I bought the different bulbs for them too but i'm fairly sure they are 5600k Tungsten. They are so damn bright white its not funny. The standard bulbs that come with the unit are 3200k halogen and appear a tad yellowish.

nah man. the globes that came with it were the standard 2700k (or is it 2600k?) interior house light. the blue globes that i got are 3200k tungsten and daylight is 5600k.

derrick - sorry. no BTS on this test. but all the lights were about 2 meters from the talent on the camera side of the first two shots, pointing straight up at the ceiling, making sure there was no spill on the walls.

i wrote/directed a 30min sitcom pilot last year with a character named derrick in it. love the name :)

can't wait jm! though i'm doing an on location shoot next week and won't have the net so i'll have to wait...

Looks really good. I had already decided before seeing this thread, but I'm on my way now to Lowes to pick up one of these as well as a bunch of N-Vision CLF's to make some China lanterns.

I'd love to have another 2K to throw at a good kit, but I'm tapped out and as of now all my footage looks like it was shot in a cave. I'll have to make due with what I can afford. Your test shots gives me some extra reassurance.
