yeah he's a honest man we know.

and i also know every camera has dead pixels but just because i'm an ignorant about these tech issues i'd like to know how to handle with it..

my next feature will be shot with this camcorder!
and i wouldn't like to be a beta tester..

Filmmaker dont worry you wont see those when the camera rolls out, every camera has dead pixels, they use a method called pixel mapping to get rid of them by using surrounding pixel information so they all get cleaned out.. Jim's description of fixing them in photoshop was something you dont need to do on the production camera.
it's cool to have your words.

thx

I was starting to look around at other cameras because the price of the Red is a bit much (compared to prosumer stuff.) But the chip in the HVX is only 960 x 540 pixels. Dang, the Red blows that away. (I was looking at frame grabs from the HVX on the web last night.) Time to save my pennies for a Red. Jim said Red doesn't use any pixel shifting or any other trickery. I love those beautiful pixels, even the dead ones.

Jarred.
I agree, the tonal of the skin is amazing! :)
About the banding, I wasn´t complaining, I just pointed out that without it, I, and I answer only for myself here, wouldnt be able to tell it was shot with a video camera.
(thinking of that it is 8-bpc I am amazed that is looks this good! :) )

Video tend look harsh and noisy in that kind of low light. Skin tones tend to look artificial. Does that answer your "?", filmmaker1977?

And for the 17.500...they are practically giving this camera away for that kind of money! What do you complain about?
I don´t get it. Sorry.

the tonal of the skin is the BEST that i could find from a digital source!

Yes. Very strange. I don´t get it either. :)
Well, well...

i just want to clear up my play:

first, how is it possible to take the things as unfriendly? :) be cool man!

second, the key and one of the secrets of the red success can be and it is "the economies of scale":
jim needs to sell it as affordable as possible.. why do we think he's here at dvxuser?

as i tried to say, even for $17,500 only a minority can afford a camera for this price..

for example, i and my partners we have 4 reservations.. how could it be possible if the price would be higher?

offering this price range, red can be real and not just a dream..

as mass product for the general filmmaking this camcorder can be a reality for a large quantity of shooters.. if not, with other price, it would just be for a few..

so, is it clear now?

i shouldn't need to post this but i will:
there aren't any complaints about the price.. but if there is who can buy it, whatever is its price, there is who cannot.. okay?

peace for once even if i never was in war.. at least, against you my dear hans.. i even like your posts but not that price point undervaluation..

And a miniscule minority of that minority can afford to shoot 35mm. Your point is a bit moot. :)

But I do get what your saying. Your saying that whatever the price is, there will be those who will not be able to afford it. Its just that its a pretty academic point.

not exactly.. but in general i'd like you'll get the point, it's pure common sense.. let's see:

i think red is between two worlds:

affordable filmmaking and a high-end digital camera that this camcorder is.

because of its higher quality, there will always be the temptation to go ahead with this latter market segment..

and this can be dangerous especially to those who will not be able to afford it but maybe they can get it if its price is a low standard.

for a 17,500$ price range there will be more people to buy it rather a higher offer than that.. that's a La Palisse's true but we shouldn't forget.. because we need this mass delivery for the red's success.. if not, red couldn't be what has been: a true revolution as far as it's possible to get also because its price range!

and it's necessary to be there!.. among the "poor" ones like this young people here at dvxuser.. not as another tool for the richest cinematographers ("they" cannot be the red vampires.. :D we need this cam for us!.. as affordable as possible..)

jim said: $17,500 and we must be grateful and not leaving other message like "you can ask what you want and we'll buy it anyway".. it isn't true!

in that case (above $17,500), most of us wouldn't handle the price and the only option would be the 1/3" (choice?) or the 1/2" offer if available.. my example: maybe i couldn't buy not even 1 red one unit (and by now, me and my associates we are with 4 reservations) and red wouldn't be what it is: a true revolution because it is for $17,500!

Just had to jump aboard here and express my admiration! I just now saw the gallery. There's been a lot of people saying that their footage shot in HD looks as good as film, and most of the times they've been wrong! I'm so happy to finally see something that's not a disappointment.

Jim sure knows what film looks like. Not just the detail and resolution, but the softness of film is all there! Just a joy to watch! It's so great to be exited about HD again. At the pace things were going in the industry I didn't think I'd see something like this for many years... And to actually be able to own one! Finally, money in the bank.. I'm putting in a reservation right now!

2k image posted and you get a sale (probably like 100 by now though right?)...In the words of Tom Hanks aka Cpt. John Miller in SPR

"And that's how simple it is."

(had that line stuck in my head a while, had to work it in somewhere)

On top of it all, make-up artists around the world are going to love the RED Camera too...and thats a good thing, as Martha always says. (Said in full respect for the lovely models)..Peace, Norman
