yes 0 is centre and if the GH2 needs to be set at the lowest setting that is something i have never done with any of my many cams or canon DSLRs.The canon i had was at 0 or plus 1 most of the time with little moire/aliasing, i will stick with 1080i that is acceptable, thanks for the info.

Well different systems behave differently and have different GUI. If 1080i is good for you... I really can't stand interlaced video anymore.

Surely you still have the raw file from that shot for us to look at? It's hard for me to believe those shots are @ "0" sharpening. That looks more like +2 sharpening 2 me. But I agree with folks...you should dial these camera's sharpness all the way down. They are not Canons.. I had a Canon also...and "0" sharpening always produces aliasing/color moire. I tried to convince myself that it was not a problem....but no dice.

Ian-T raw file for what ? ,the setting was on 0 and going 2 down looks the same to me,i agree pietro i thought i had left interlaced and i did not realise there is no 25P available.

Flinty, maybe it's just me, but I see loads of moire & artifacting in the Canon...much worse to my eyes than the GH2 footage you posted. It's also not nearly as sharp & detailed as the GH2 footage you posted (just compare details in the background). The GH2 footage looks so obviously superior to me, that it's not even close IMO. I do notice that your Canon footage has more contrast and saturation and that seems to be something you enjoyed. To my eyes it's a bit too hyped, but that's me. You could raise the contrast & saturation on the GH2 and see if that picture suits your taste better.

It's really interesting how our perceptions of these clips are so very different. I haven't seen any other owner complaining about GH2 moire like you, but whatever it is, it obviously bothers you. I could better understand if you were shooting with a camera like the NEX5 that I owned for awhile. The moire & aliasing on that camera was bad enough IMO, that I just couldn't watch the video I shot. It took some very nice still pix, but video was dog poop IMO.

...as I said...to look at (outside of Web compression). :) You're footage is the only one I've seen as bad as that at those settings. No doubt all these DSLRs suffer from some sort of aliasing but...well you get the point..

Note that 0 means low sharpening while 2 is high sharpening. You need to turn sharpening to -2, that means it's turned off (or at least a very small amount, we have no idea how the unprocessed image from the sensor looks like).
In any non-RAW mode, the camera always uses some degree of sharpening. Even in Extended Optical Zoom mode, the image you see is not simply a 1:1 crop of the center of the sensor. This is because the photosensitive elements in the sensor each respond to only one R, G, or B color component. To produce each RGB pixel in an image, the camera must average together a cluster of R, G, and B elements. Since this process mathematically reduces the resolution of the image, the camera applies a sharpness filter to recover the muted details of the image. The necessary amount of sharpening that needs to be applied is both an engineering judgment and a matter of personal taste. The "0" Sharpness setting is the degree of sharpening that Panasonic expects most customers will like. They provide a range of settings for you to adjust it to your own preference.

Ken to answer your point from the other site i still have 15 days to return and get a full refund but i dont want to as i decided on this one because it has many extra features that seamed better to me, i am always picky and with new equipment and until i realy get into them moan about them but i will not say black is white and no way does the 550D have as much moire alaising as my GH2 in 24P. The 550D clips did not show any as bad as these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJAeQfledmI but as long as 1080i is not too bad i can live with it,the GH2 has good AF / E-T-C , plus adjustable sound etc so it is better in many ways ,regarding color i still dont know which color mode to use at present ,standard seems as good as any, one thing i do not understand is everyone says keep the sharpness on the lowest setting but others say how sharp the picture is,so in a nutshell perhaps i expected too much as far as moire/alaising goes.

Flinty, I think part of the problem for you is the sheer detail on the GH2 that wasn't present in your Canon. Perhaps this greater detail is presenting some artifacts that your sensitive to, but to my eyes I definitely see more of them in the Canon footage.

I see issues in the Canon footage similar to what I experienced with my NEX5. Those issues made me abandon it for video use. I find the GH2 very very close to a dedicated camcorder in terms of a picture free of artifacts. No, it's not quite there yet, but it's damn close. Couple that with the better color resolution, dynamic range and DOF, and overall I find a picture that's superior to what I found with the TMV700 @60p...something I thought I'd never say.

well i am going to keep with this one, since 1981 there has only been 2 cams or separates as the very early ones were that i was 100% happy with after purchase, firsly the the first 3ccd pana mini dv cam they made DX100 i think they were a lot smaller than sony 2100 size and secondly my HV30 which i still have and think is a great cam.Ps bet you dont sell the TM700

Hi flinty
I have a railing fence in my garden, I did a test and found that i could simulate your problem with my hacked GH1, 1080i was not as bad as 720p but when i changed the lens from the 14-140 to a Canon FD 50mm 1.8 the problem whet away.......... have you tried another lens?
Cheers
Paul

Thanks for that paul, apart from the 14-140mm kit i only have a canon EF 50mm and 2 tamron canon fit ef zooms,i dont think there is an adaptor that gives lens functions exept a very espensive one.so you found 720P bad have you tried 24P or does the hacked G1 not have it.

I have an ebay EF adapter but you can't adjust the aperture. They are about $40. This problem is more apparent on wide shots, try adding a couple of filters - that may make the lens less sharp.
Cheers
Paul
