24 p what is it good for?

Yeah I can see how the cadence would be annoying...but you could always just speed it up by 4%...

You can but it not look good. well on youtube and vimeo it look ok, but iam talking brodcast quality here. of course they shuld keep 24p but they must add 25 p for europe user. Or maby they want people who want to work with gh2 for telvision go for the af101 insteed.

So if you are not happy with how your 24p shot footage is turning out then don't shoot 24p.

If you have a problem with the camera you are using, find another that suits your needs and shoot with it.

But to come on here declaring 24p cannot give absolutely gorgeous results even on support systems like jobs or glide-tracks seems to be just instigating a fight. There are 100 years of cinema that has been shot with 24p motion cadence. I think most of it looks pretty good.

well gh2 is not film and in europe 25 p is STANDARD. So what do you suggest i shoot on 720p 50 (wich is the same as in gh1? whats the point then with gh2?) "find another that suits your needs and shoot with it"My god you are sensitive for hearing some negative things about the camera.

Well there is ways to convert 24p to 25 p and make it looks good but it cost a lot of money, there not doing that with a imac computer.)

Ummmm...ok that's a crock. They might not be doing it with iMovie but you tell me what workflow you think it is they're doing and I will go do it on an iMac.

If you're actually needing "broadcast quality" to broadcast and not just to be snooty then you probably wouldn't have made that statement.

well we dont have a hollywood budget. But if you know a good program for converting (not mental expensive) compatible with avid i would be moore than happy.

The GH2 is a consumer mirrorless still camera with a video feature on it. It's not more than what it is. It's a stills camera that does video. It is not designed for filmmakers. It doesn't have 25p.

If it doesn't do what you want, sell it and get something else.

Or learn to live within its limitations.

If you want to shoot 25p, your choices are to either shoot 24p and speed it up by 4% (which is the same workflow that EVERY hollywood movie you've EVER watched on PAL TV uses), or to shoot 50i and de-interlace.

Or, if you're distributing on DVD or blu-ray, just shoot 24p. They will both play on PAL DVD/blu-ray players and televisions just fine.

Just ran some 25p from 24p conversion tests using Cinema Tools and Compressor and they look fine to me. Went quickly too.

why does this issue come up every two weeks ?
GH2 couldn't do 25P when you bought it. so why did you ?
and i still don't understand how come 25P looks better than 24P..
i work on Avid on pal land and can transfer the project to 25p automatically and go on to online for finishing..
what exactly doesn't look good ? can you please be more specific?

When you open up the 24 p bin in the 25 p project and modify the timeline to 25 p it looks strobish. it has to add 0ne frame i works via mix and match but don look good at all.

So thats the soultion if you want somting to be changed. Be quiet and get somthing else?

You're clearly doing something incorrect with your workflow. Slowing by 4% shouldn't result in a strobing effect.

Try asking in Avid community forum or search for the proper
Workflow. They explained it to me and it didn't look strobish.
Maybe it's not the latest avid ? (5.03. Etc..)
