Cool. Is this something the Red team has commented on? Or is it just speculations amongst us forum-gentlemen? How does it work exactly. You can just make some kinda alpha layer image in photoshop or something?

Im sure superimposing a few black strips positioned with buttons isnt hard.

Yeah, the idea has been thrown around for quite awhile now and though we haven't heard much on the GUI front lately (I'm sure they're nowhere near finishing that part), I think they know that it's something a lot of people want. I actually have plans to shoot some things in a non-standard aspect myself (I can discuss that somewhere else if you're interested), and I would love a camera that lets me pick exactly the display I want. Of course, I'll really be shooting in 16:9 for post sake, but I'd like my overlays to show me where I want to crop the picture.

Jim has promised a pretty revolutionary menu and display system (and I have no doubt that they'll deliver, at all), so I'm pretty confident you'll be covered. Really, a lot of this stuff is just speculation, and with at least three months before they're planning to get those engineering samples out the door, there is still a lot to finish up. So while continually asking "does it have this? does it have that?" may be less than productive at this point, it certainly helps to make reccomendations and let the team know what we're still looking for. They're definitely reading!
