1DX Mark ii 120fps in HD is also amazing. I shoot 4K on the camera a lot and like the 4K 60p, but dropping to HD 120fps is like butter. Need some examples? Check out Peter McKinnon! lol
Just a word on the James Miller profiles, I've been using them for 6 months and need to move away from them. Using those profiles when trying to match C-log 1/2/3 on a C200 or other Canon cine camera has just caused me so much work in post. It does something to the colours which I just can't easily tweak. If shooting just on the 1DX2 the Miller profiles are fine.
Really? I use one of the profiles and can easily match it up with my C300 MKII, I haven't found a better profile for roll off.
I find it really difficult, I'm not sure if its WB etc but even with a colour chart it just takes an age, I did a test with the neutral profile and matched in minutes.
Whats your process for WB and matching?
Thanks for all the advice everyone.
I thank you Andree for going into such detail, cant tell you how helpful that was, really starting to get my head around it all now.
After a few more tests and to the advice I have got, I have decided I am very happy with my choice of the 1dx2. But as everyone has said, its such a shame not have Canon log.
I have started playing with Ciniestyle. I was looking at the waveform and with cinestyle the blacks dont go all the way to the left, like they do on the natural profile.
Doesn't that mean Im losing information ? Or losing Dynamic range?
You don't need log or log emulation on the 1DX II. I created log emulations after the 1DX II came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIyV1_ECGrA (includes a free unlocked picture style; probably was the first released log emulation for the 1DX II). Here the studio shots are C300 II, and location are 1DX II using my log emulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mIVRphxFHU . I had a challenging time in post with skin/color for the 1DX II log emulation footage. Here's an early prototype moving away from log emulation (also shows how to make 1080p look like 4K): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIw1CpYKk0c
Thus, after shooting in many lighting conditions, I found too much was lost in the midtones (skin tones). I also tested CineStyle: same results. So I dropped log emulation and focused on making the best possible skin tones, straight from the camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydip7TixJbg . As you can see Filmic Skin works in all conditions, include high dynamic range shots at the beach in direct sunlight, while producing great skin tones. I doubt Canon's CLog on the 5DIV will capture much more in the highlights (and similarly if CLog was available on the 1DX II). I also shoot with the C300 II, and while Canon Log 2 and the C300 II's sensor provide more DR, in practice the 1DX II has been fine. Lately I've been focusing on WYSIWYG- so no log, no huge color space, just great color and contrast for skin tones, straight from the camera.
Thanks for the information.
I too feel that even Cinestyle took away from the image. Though I do feel the 1dc with Canon log had more room in the highlights.
So far I do like the 1dx2 image very much, i just wish I could stop the sky from blowing out so much.
I find you have to underexpose to save the highlights and stop the colours from being over bright, but then you also have to deal with the over crushed blacks, I feel like I am constantly dancing between the two.
How do you deal with and expose the image on the 1dx2?

I never owned the 1DC but it was my dream camera for years. It has such a gorgeous image. The saddest part of this is that it's pretty obvious now that it was a one-time experiment. We can only hope that a future 1DX III (due with the 2020 Olympics) will implement more Cinema EOS features like C-Log and 10/12 bit recording.
MJPEG could easily be redesigned for 10 bit or 12 bit color depth, as JPEG has many possible implementations. The problem is that in a weather sealed body like the 1D series, and unlike the smaller GH5/GH5S, the heat generated by a large sensor is possibly too much without reverting to a new generation of sensors. So we may never get 10 bit All-I video in a 1D body until Canon develops new sensors that don't require the same venting and cooling as in their dedicated cinema cameras. Moreover, they might feel as if they are undermining the C200 and other Cinema EOS cameras by offering all of that in the 1D series.
But I do hope that someone at Canon sees the light and decides to release a 1DC II. Some shooters just need the best image quality in the most portable and mobile package and these people are willing to pay the C200 price simply to have those same video features in a DSLR body.
However, Canon doesn't want to price the camera out of the stills only guys and don't want to kill sales of their video cameras.
