C100: "1080p is better than 4k. (Or Why I Chose The Canon C100)"

That can be true for some camera operators.

Other people invest in a camera that suits their skill set and then offer their services. It's fair to assume that in this case, the camera comes with the package and camera choice by owner/operator might be a factor.

And this will be dictated by the types of jobs you do for the most part. Owner/Operators (of which I am one) own the cameras that they use the most. In my case the C100 is a good fit because I do a lot of corporate and doc type of stuff. I like the look of a large sensor and am willing to work a bit harder to accommodate when it isn't strictly necessary.

But when I shoot bigger work I don't push my camera on the production - even if I did they wouldn't have it. Need slo-mo? 4K? Bigger crews? I usually reach for a RED in those scenarios but other people might go for an Alexa. Broadcast? Then they probably want a C300.

For jobs where my camera ownership is a factor it usually is more than enough. For jobs where they want something specific, the client or project pretty much sets the terms.

I kind of agree here with the purchase, seems to make sense for Ryan. I too don't really care much for 4k or at least it's not a defacto reason for me to use a particular camera- actually I'm most excited for 4K gaming, not captured images. Will I buy a s35 black magic? Probably. But the c100/c300 are great tools and can get a lot of work done quickly, I might buy a c300 when everyone starts selling them for the next big thing (may we never forget the 35mm adapter days).

As far as the tool vs the craft debate, you can easily go either way- a balance of both is probably the best bang for your career buck.

C100 is a great tool for the price, that's the point of discussion to me, giving essentially same image as C300 if used with Ninja2, (or similar recorder), great DR, detail, lack of moire, makes it amazing tool, above any Canon DSLR , that IMO, are in the league of Gopro, Iphone.

It is a great tool. And in my opinion you don't even need an external recorder (even if the IQ gets marginally better with one). Price/performance is superb.

That said, the 1Dc (Canon DSLR) is superior to it in my mind and my 5Dmk3 is several levels above my GoPro Hero 3 Black when it comes to how the images are rendered. That said, the situations where you'd want to employ a GoPro vs a mk3 don't overlap all that much.

Now, since these are just personal opinions, there's no need to debate this further on my part.
