10" 1024x600 monitor with battery and HDMI input for your upcoming GH2, $130 only

certainly interested to see about this 'dvxuser' edition. i picked up one of the 13.3" craig's for 90 bucks. i'll post some picks and review of it when i get a chance, currently using it as a regular tv and the picture is very nice

A very good thread.

Those who own this monitor (English Matte version), could you please post a short review of it on this thread? How did it perform as a field monitor with your GH2? Was it reliable for focus pulling? Any problems you ran into? Dealbreakers or gamemakers?

Also, has anyone tried this monitor with the 7D?

Ok. I said i would review the monitor when I got it.

it came very quickly. The packaging was fine. the Matte screen is excellent. It seems very well constructed. navigating the menu with the buttons took some getting used to, but the english menu is excellent. The usb and vga ports work well. But for all these good points the monitor is basically useless to me because the hdmi port doesn't seem to work. I am currently using a gh1, while patiently awaiting a gh2. I have tested the camera port and a different cable but the problem seems to be at the monitor end. I will contact Mr Chan. He has been good to deal with so I'm sure he will sort the problem out quickly. I find it curious that other people on this thread have had similar issues.

If 13" isn't too big for you, then Walmart and CVS have 13" TVs that are DC powered with 1368 x 768 (I don't recall on the exact res on the CVS) native resolution and HDMI-in for $99. I have not seen the CVS unit (you can view it online) to determine if it has a matte finish. I bought the Walmart unit. It works fine, but it has a glossy screen, which is a problem. I'll have to either put a matte cover over it or sand it down with 2000 grit or similar to get the gloss off.

You have to supply your own battery. As Soldier said, the menu control is a bit squirrelly to figure out on these, but it's easy once you understand what the buttons do. The stand mount is accessible for replacement by an adapter for jib mounting. The picture is good and very suitable for focus. Of course, probably isn't worth much for color and exposure. I am having an issue with vertical viewing angle. I get a great picture if I view it with the monitor tilted back. I have not looked for a viewing angle adjustment. It is not super bright, so it needs a hood.

i have the cvs one, same model and it's glossy. you could also try 0000 steel wool, which is usually even marketed as a de-polisher. let me know how it works :)

have you found a good stand replacement to 1/4" ?

i got a couple 12V DC Rechargeable Li-ion Battery for CCTV Cam 6800mAh for 22 bucks a piece which power the thing for a good number of hours

I got a new short mini-hdmi to hdmi cable and it seems to have improved connectivity between my camera and the monitor significantly.

Check camera side.
Many cables have too thick connector.
Use knife or something to make it smaller :-)

Btw, good solution in future will be DisplayPort with locking connectors. It is much better suited for our task.

How doesn't it work Solider? Do you get anything at all?

The camera monitor keeps flashing "tv output in progress" off and on. The Leadstar monitor screen flashes from blue to black as if it is about to receive a signal, but flashes off, then on etc. I jiggled the HDMI cable at the monitor end. I'm positive that the HDMI input on the monitor is the problem. If I could fix it myself without having to send it back, I'd do it, but I don't want to ruin it.

It is ok with GH1. Try to shoot still image and try again after this. Set TV output mode to 720p.

Hmmm... I've tried doing this but it does not work. I have plugged the camera into another tv with the same hdmi cable and it plays back movies and photos no problem. I think the problem is definitely with the Leadstar HDMI port, not the camera.

Just bought a gh2 and I am going to purchase this monitor.

Since I am more of an actor/writer and lack thorough knowledge of technical specs,
could someone please help me round out this order by including links to products.

What is the best HDMI cable to get? Should I get a miniHDMI to HDMI connection?

What is the best battery pack for this monitor?

Does this monitor connect to a hot shoe?

And lastly, does anyone know the time frame of when the DVXuser version of this monitor is coming out. Looks like I found this thread 2 days too late and now have to wait 2 weeks for the end of Chinese New Year.

Thanks my friends!

I think the problem is some kind of compatibility issue. the monitor works when plugged into a computer. There is no problem with the cable. the problem is not the camera connection because the camera plays back files fine on my television. i wonder if it has something to do with my bit rate settings in the hack. I'll experiment a little more.

soldier i have the same problem.. gh13 connected to monitor and i too get flashing screen... if with the same cable i connect to TV i have no problem.. if i connect the monitor to my Mac with a adaptor i have no problem...
it actually hangs the camera... i need to turn off the camera to regain control once it starts flashing...
i made a quick clip of the problem.. it is uploading right now to vimeo.. i'll post link later when ready.

also the monitor will run out of battery in a week even switched off... i know rechargable batteries tend to discharge even when not used... but this will go from a complete charge to completely dead in one week...never happended before with any other device...
