10" 1024x600 monitor with battery and HDMI input for your upcoming GH2, $130 only

Mr. Chan,

I own one of your monitors and I like it.

In the future if you can create a very small monitor using LG or similar retina, IPS panel display, like an iPhone 4 - but with HDMI in, and a built in battery I think you will sell a lot of them. The scaling from 1920x1080 should be easy and clean looking since the retina display is 960x540.

Hi, Dan. Thanks for your suggestion. What size of IPS screen did most gh1 owners like? If change to IPS screen, we need to find a panel to replace the current one.

Based on small marketing research that I did using four largest forums I suggest the following:
5-6" monitor (see SmallHD DP6 as good example), 7" monitor and 10" monitor using same platform (case, panel size and battery will be the only differencies).
If we need to choose one model - my preference goes to current 10" size.
Each monitor must have internal battery and Sony battery mount (Sony Li-Ion batteries are cheap and very popular in this field).

About IPS panel - best resolution is 1280x720. As it is very easy to scale and native resolution for 720p.
10" panel with highest resolution on the market is something like 1366x768 as far as I remember.

Software (firmware part) is really 50% of such monitor.
Panel is other 30%.
And construction and battery options - remaining 20%.

I really like current ligh and compact plastic case of LD-1088.
But many people pointed out that we also need 1/4" mount on bottom (as well as in it's current position).
Battery inside case must be better fixed.

We do not need TV tuner and VGA input.
May be speakers can be also removed.
And all this savings must be invested to new IPS panel.

I'll write more detailed info about firmware soon.

Welcome to DVxuser Mr. Chan

1- Is there any chance to have Waveform, Focus on Edge and false color in 668GL (off-course with extra cost)?

2- Any wireless HDMI built-in option in future?

Thanks Vitaliy,
Can we search for Waveform, Focus on Edge and false color option as well as HDMI wireless in our future research.
I know its too much, but let try ...

I think that it is better to go using small steps.

Waveform and other features require completely different hardware and good developers.

Konsta never made any professional monitors, so I think that it'll be hard for them.

Better start with proper IPS panel, good calibration, good controls and menu, instant 1:1 zoom.
May be false colors and focus assist will be possible using programmable FIR filters on Mstar chips.

1/4" mounting options at all 4 sides would be very nice, but at least at top and bottom.

HDMI and components in would make it versatile for many cameras - not everyone is using a DSLR only - a lot of HVX and similar with HD components out there.
I would instantly buy that monitor if it had components input.

And yeah, we don´t need speakers and TV and VGA.

Thanks, Frank

I think that Lilliputs have component input, even BNC.

I really do not want to see any component inputs, as they are bulky and not only take space, but also require many firmware related changes.
Plus ADC converter are not really top notch in all MStart chips.

Is there a way to update the firmware or cause the screen to default to 1080i/or 1080p mine always wants to default to 480p, and that causes a ton of EDID problems.

What's up with that? Is there another menu setting I can do to alleviate it's preference for 480p?

This things must have a way to update firmware.
And I told manufacturers that they need to improve EDID and connection routines in firmware.

And that do you mean under "default 1080i/p"?
All bad things that I know if sometimes flickering for few seconds upon connection.

I agree with Vitaliy - it's good that the manufacturers are willing to engage with us here on this forum, but we should be cautious about asking too much of them. They are used to designing monitors for general use and can't be expected to immediately start adding filmmakers' features like waveform, nice as it would be.

A small one based on an iphone-sized (and iphone-resolution) display would be extremely nice and I second the request. It would be very unique.

has anyone tested this with hdmi? How's the quality? Is it ok for a GH1/2 monitor on a budget?

Build quality seems excellent, size is great, VERY lightweight.... resolution is not amazing it did auto-detect 1080P60 (from Sony Blu-Ray [testing])... looks like the average portable DVD player, terrible field of view (expected / non-issue for me).

Shipping was FAST, packaging was excellent

Under FOV problem you mean overscan or TN matrix?

Because first is very easy to fix by small firmware change, and as I unerstand manufacturer is seriously considering about switching to IPS or MVA panels.

I vote for ips panel
1280x720
Or
1366x768 native res
Built in battery
Luminance coloring option aka false color as done by Flanders scientific or smallhd.
No analog inputs
4 or 5 1/4"-20 mounting holes

That's all I need in a cheap monitor. Have to say I use my 1088b every day as a dedicated waveform monitor (in conjunction with blackmagic ultrascope) great for that use!

is this panel actually 1920 by 1080? why isnt everyone picking one of these up? for the price it seems like an awesome monitor. im ordering a gh2 today and i think one of these monitors would go perfect with it.
what do u guys think of that one?

We have multiple threads about Lilliput on this forum.
It has cheap 848x480 matrix. And started as car monitor (without battery and such).
Now they improved it, but not really very much.

oh didnt realize the resolution was so low. if i was to order a monitor today, is the 130$ one still the best option? id be willing to spend a little more.
