1 minute horror short

I thought this was cool and well done, any chance you could explain how you did some of the shots? like the ones that hovers over to the tv :)

that is dis cus t ing!
if I'm not mistaken the one that hovers over to the tv is simply fast motion editing duh...

I see the previous poster's point about not too much of a story, but with something like this, especially coming in at a little over 1 minute, it seems only appropriate to focus on the act instead of trying to cram some kind of story in.

For what it is, you did a fantastic job. It was disturbing, irking, brooding, etc. The sound work was very good as well when he was slicing/stabbing her.

Hey guys,

I had the camera on a jib with wheels pretty much the whole time. So the dolly into/out of the tv was done by pushing/pulling the jib.

This was an experimental piece that had to be 1 minute in length. No sync sound allowed either.

i think complaining about story in a one minute piece is ridiculous. Disturbing? He did say Horror. I personally think it looks pretty cool, i like the style of it, good job :)

Yep, this was pretty damn good! And there was a story, just not the entire Lord of the Rings saga. Actually, this is one of the better shorts I've seen here on dvxuser (btw. shouldn't this be in user films section... you'd get more comments, I think). I liked it a lot.

That said, I'd cut the ending - I think it ends much more powerfully with the exit of the ghostly figure... we already pretty much know how the woman looks from the start of the movie, and it's better to leave details to the imagination.

This reminded me of just a tiny bit of Polanski. If any of you ever get a chance, you should see some of Roman Polanski's shorts he did when he was at the film school in Lodz. There are some super short ones as well, and they are really well done... you can see the talent of the guy already totally apparent when he was a young student.

Lol. Im not sure if TRY THIS was supposed to lead me to a movie or what? Im reading through the thread now...

That was so Cool! just the sort of stuff that i want to get into 10 points can't wait for your next one...
Oh and really nice movement with the camera a little wavy at times but awsome gliding stuff!!! agree about the last shot story wise, but i was such a good shot i doubt i would have been able to give it the chop.
The only thing that i felt was missing was blood flying through the air when he stabs her. but you still get a full 10/10. If you want fake blood PM me for the tasty recipe...

OldCorpse: is there a dvd of Polanski's short films?

I saw them originally on the large sceen at the Lodz film school many years ago, when I went to Poland to shoot a documentary. I then saw a VHS tape with the shorts here in the states. I have not researched if they are available on DVD... something to put on my todo list, as I'd like to have them close at hand as well :)

There's a lot of fun and laughter when we fool around here, uploading links to stuff done by users etc., but I tell you, when you see a real talent like Polanski creating amazing stuff at a young age, you just go quiet with awe - real talent has spoken... I tell you, you know it when you see it.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great feedback.

Oldcorpse: I'll definitely check into those Polanski shorts. I haven't seen too many of major director's first shorts, besides Lynch's.

Attic: What's your recipe for blood? I've had good luck with the blood mix from "Evil Dead:" non dairy creamer, clear kyro syrup, red and blue food coloring. I agree that a good blood spray is lacking in my short. I simply didn't have time to rig something that would spray the rather thick batch of blood I had made up.

I Use 1 tin cheap syrup, 2 small bottles red food coloring, 1 small bottle yellow food coloring, 2 DROPS blue food coloring and about 1.5 litres boiling water (about 2 quarts i think) hot to help it mix looks pretty good, and it's perfectly safe to lick off lips and stuff like that. It can look pretty shiny sometimes but we have only used it in theater so it looks cool on stage...
