I know you're not supposed to record with different brands of tape. Someone gave me a sony mini-dv tape and I need to get the footage on to my computer... Is it safe to play this tape through my DVX? Thanks

There is a red circle with an X on it on the top of my lcd screen. The camera has 10 hours of use on it so far. I think this indicates a dirty head, but I don't see any difference in the picture quality. Does that sound right?
