k6/me66 stopped working

I just bought a new k6/me66 mic a couple of weeks ago from evs. I've only used it twice. I've taken very good care of it, and have kept it in a case and it wasnt dropped or anything like that.

Yesterday i plugged it into my camera for a job, and i wasnt getting any audio levels at all. i tried it with a different cable and on a different camera and had the same results.

Could I have a bad mic? It is kind of strange for it to just stop working after it was working perfectly.

Re: k6/me66 stopped working

It is unusual. Did you try unscrewing and rescrewing the capsule back on--it could be a bad connection. Is it switched on (sorry, I had to ask). Have you got the phantom power switch on the DVX selected correctly?

Re: k6/me66 stopped working

Hmm, doesn't sound good. Looks like it needs to go back to EVS or Sennheiser for repair/replacement.

Re: k6/me66 stopped working

Have you tried flipping the battery polarity? I have made that mistake alot, because the battery slot spring that normally goes on the neg side should go on the pos. Sorry, this may be silly, but it got me many time. Other wise call one of our guys for an RMA. I am overseas now, so ask for Tommy or Ramzi.

Rush.

I feel stupid now... :-[

I thought you had to set the switch on the front to "line" when plugging something in there, and keep it on "mic" if you were using the built-in mic.

Re: k6/me66 stopped working

So it's not broken--great. Don't feel bad, most of the stuff I do right I learned from doing it the wrong way :).

...and here's another "do I feel stupid" thingy:
I'm shooting a VO temp track with my 100a/ME66 the other day, and am amazed when I here a definite electronic buzzing when I hit the zoom rocker. It's recorded to tape! Changed XLR cable...still there. I set the camera to phantom power and it's gone. Replaced the mike battery and all was well. Like I really need more grey hairs.
