Okay, so I bid a large amount on an eBay item that's a mk41v. I though the v was superfluous, but now I just checked and it's a different module than the mk41!! How is it different? I want the "schoeps" sound. Should I back out of this auction? I still have time!
So I visited a set today (some friends were crewing on it) and it was more pro than i am usually used to ( a budget around a quarter mil). Anyhow, the sound guy had a great setup, over $25k worth. Sound Devices, Lectrosonics, Comtek, etc. But the thing that threw me for a loop was his mic...
I ordered a used set of Lectrosonics and added a brand new Countryman B6 from Gotham Sound and they were great to deal with. In spite of the floods plaguing NYC they still got my setup to me in time for my Saturday gig and everything worked flawlessly. I'll definitely be coming back to them.
I am getting near to bumping my audio package up another notch and am now turning my attention towards wireless. I know not to get the G2s and to go for the Lectros. I know to get at least the 2xx series.
But...for intercutting between an MKH60 or Schoeps will a Lectrosonices 2xx series with a...
Okay, so the cliche DVXUser audio package is Oktava, BBG, and KSSM.
But, when I got to B&H, the KSSM is listed as the shockmount for only the CS-1 mic but the generic one for size from 19mm to 25mm with soft suspenders is the KSMS. So...which one is the one to get for use with...
Here's my dilemma: I'm soon to take delivery of my Red One camera (yay!) and it has four channels on input. For the short term, my SD302 at 2 channels will do me fine, but then I'll want to be able to mix all 4 channels.
I presently own an SD302 and love it. If I sell it, I'll take a loss...
So I got my HD-P2 in today (yay) and it's cool and all. Bigger than I thought it would be! I definitely need to pony up for an Eargonizer.
Anyhow, I busted out my SD302 and plugged a countryman lav into it to test it out. I set my HD-P2 to line in...and nothing at all registered, not even a...
I had used the earlier model of Gitzo 12' carbon (7560?) and liked it and thought it was a great bargain. When I went to order it a few months ago it disappeared from B&H. Well Matt recommended waiting for a new one at NAB and yep, they released the GB3560. So I just got it in the mail from B&H...
There's book knowledge, then there's field knowledge. You can compare specs all night long, but until you've used it on a set all night long there can be a separation from experience.
Below is a list of reports from the field. The primary contributor has been ptalsky, plus a couple more. I...
I have a decent selection of e26 household edison bulbs that I take on set, but I hate the box I carry them in (a foam padded plastic box). What do you guys use to carry a large assortment of them for practicals?
I can't count on each bulb having a cardboard box around it since I own a lot of...
I just got off set for one of my last days shooting a webisode comedy series set in an office environment. For 95% of my shots, my ck93 hyper has worked like a champ. We had minimal control over the office, so I could not turn off the AC system, but we were able to get the mic really close to...
Here's a short 7 minute comedy I did called "DISERVICE: Date Intevention Service".
Who can a parent call when a teenager get's too horny? Diservice!

On the set of Norm Sanders SpyFest movie, Without Provocation, Ken Kupelian (Chazmo) and I were setting up the audio (he ran the rig, I acted) and were debating between using my se300b/CK93 and Norm's c480/CK63. We had some slack time so we did a side-by-side comparison. We had both mics...
Hey guys,
I'm wanting a wireless listening solution for my sets but don't want to bite the bullet for Comtek or even ListenTek. I know, I know, you get what you pay for. But, since I am not recording and this is for purely listening I'm wondering if I am can get away with a bit cheaper...
So whilst at NAB this year I cruised a lot of audio booths and it was interesting.
First up: The Manfrotto booth to check out the new Gitzo poles. You were right Matt! They've come out with a new 12' carbon fiber pole with new collars and also upgraded carbon material and only raised the price...
I am in the market for a low cost carbon fiber boom pole. I was going to get the Gitzo one after using Envision's during the last Dramafest. But then B&H stopped carrying it. I did a search and found that Cavision is now doing a cheap carbon pole! Has anyone used it? It's only $299 for one...
This Sennheiser ME67 with K6 power module is a beautiful microphone that performed wonderfully on several short movies of mine. It sounds to me much better than the ME66. There is some writing on it (not on the grills) as seen in picture 2. The Rycote setup is fantastic and can be used with or...
