K-Tek KSMS vs KSSM?

The KSSM mounts are 1.5" apart and fit my Octava nicely. The KSM mounts are more like 2" apart. Anything longer than 1.5" wont fit the base Octava (remember, you need some space for the big fat rubber grommet on the BBG).

To confuse things, someone recently mentioned a barrel extender you can add to your Octava to make it longer, which would mean you could buy a more versatile mount (like the KSM or KGPS) and use it for Octavas plus other longer shotguns.

I have the kssm from trew. They say it is for the cs1 and all of the ones they sell have soft bands. It works great with schoeps and oktava with the 20mm bbg and without.

I would agree with simojo -- I have both the KSM and KSSM and they both work well with the Octava. I use them with a 4073 also. I had to order the soft bands as a separate piece from B&H.

If the bands were any farther apart than the kssm (eg KSM), you would not be able to put the whole mic in the shockmount when it is fitted with the BBG correctly (diaphragm of the mic dead center in the ball or slightly forward). You would need to put the rear bracket of the shockmount on the xlr plug or get a barrel adapter.

Sorry, KSSM is still the way to go.

As per K-Tek Catalog

KSSM 1 3/8" apart
KSM 2" apart

You could probably get by slightly better with the schoeps and the KSM as it is slightly longer than the oktava (I like to have the option of pushing the mic that extra bit further down). I would still go with the KSSM if I had to do it all again.
