I just wanted to verify if you are importing your p2 footage in FCP, if you delete the clips in the p2 window are they deleted forever?

hey all, long time reader, first time poster. I just got my 16 gig and was wondering how you would suggest backing up the p2 files. I have them on my lacie 500gig, but was wondering if I could split up the files to burn on dvds... any recommendations? Thanks!
