Canon just released firmware version 1.6 for the EOS R5; the big add in 1.6 is the new "Auto power off temp" option, with settings "Standard" and "High". Since the release, I've been testing how the new option affects overheating. It seems to be a big improvement. So I thought I'd share my...

Out of curiosity, I recently ran a test to see if my cameras could shoot well in low light -- as seen in Wolf Hall (BBC TV series, well worth watching). The results seemed pretty cool to me, so I thought I'd share:

The test isn't terribly scientific, but it is...
For anyone interested in editing, particularly documentary editing, I want to tell you about a fantastic editing course on the net: Inside The Edit. https://insidetheedit.com/
I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just pay my monthly fee like everyone else. But I felt I had to pass on...
Hi all,
I've just uploaded a test comparing UHD ("4K") on the X70 to HD, with firmware v3.0.
This seems of interest particularly now that we have UHD at 100Mb/second. To my eye, HD on this camera looks pretty awesome, which I have attributed to the 10-bit pixel depth; since UHD is only 8-bit...
Well the two channels are definitely out of phase. I loaded the soundtrack from your YouTube clip into Audition, and it's as clear as a bell looking at the waveforms... also mixing down to mono, the dialog immediately vanishes (apart from some residual squeaking).
So -- probably at the point...
Down at the river recording stream sounds yesterday...
On a quick preview, I can't say I'm thrilled with the sound.... it just seems... harsh? Maybe I just need to get farther back, or record at a lower level, or mix in some general ambience...? Or try AB? Or MS? Or maybe it's not so...
For the folks who are thinking about getting the 4k upgrade for the X70 camera, here's a quick walkthrough of the surprisingly complicated process of getting and installing it. Hopefully this will help people to decide whether it's something they want, or maybe help them to get through the...
What an absolute bummer!!! You (and your client) should be out enjoying the eclipse, not stuck in some stuffy conference room! Anyhow...
You won't notice the light drop yourself, as Polaroid says, because the human brain can compensate for massive changes in light levels; but there will...
I guess you're filming from Finland, so you're seeing the partial eclipse...? About 80% or more, I think. I'm going to be in the UK, doing the same thing.
If you point your camera at the Sun without significant filtration, it will overheat, and -- I would think -- eventually be damaged...
NewsShooter has reported on the announcement of the X70's 4k update:

The 2.0 firmware release looks to have some interesting features, but as far as the 4k part goes, this...
For folks who want to see some more raw footage from the X70, here's a set of quick sunny-day clips:

The original camera clips are here, both in the original MXF format, and re-wrapped (not re-compressed) to MP4...
What do folks think of the audio on this camera?
I just tried a very crude test of the camera, recording a quiet stream with an external mic outdoors, compared to the Roland R-26. It seemed good to my cloth ears, and certainly had less noise (no audible noise, really) compared to certain other...
I'm fairly amazed at the number of FS700s which have suddenly become obsolete... this might be a good time to invest.
I'm potentially in the market for a new camera, and like many people I was initially totally psyched about the FS7. But on closer inspection, I'm thinking I would get an FS700...
