Cinema EOS Announcement on 19th Jan - EOS R5C

A lot of YouTubers are talented.

Many freelance like many of us trying to make it, and starting a channel is another venture they could do with their communications skill set.

Putting together videos on a weekly basis for pennies when you're first starting out is a grind. And I think the most difficult aspect is the presentation of the information.

Because you can set up a camera and play around with the lights to build your dream set in your basement and what not, but then it's like..."Okay, but what do I say?"

"How am I going to edit all of this?"..."I think it needs some text..."

So much work.

My thing is writing...lol. I am a DVXtuber...DVXuser.

Found that video I was talking about.
The point being the processor is the source of the over heating. All it really needed like a computer a heat sink and fan. Has nothing to do with ibis. There was no reason to remove ibis. Well no engineering reason.

I think that some YTers are acctully working hard doing a lot of competent content. (mabe about flower arranging, or dog grooming not cameras/lenses/lights!) I can see that pulling XLR into a sony was a big winner vs not plugging in XLR to an R5 R6 5d2

Personally I hate those top audio jobbies - too flimsy... but my job is not sitting behihnd a desk talking and for that they are fine.

Having had some need to simple audio recently Ive found myself picking the c200/8bit (proper naked even stripped off the viewfinder) over the R6 and a bag of nds and audio hacks.

The r5c is clearly a very good camera which works for you and will serve you well assuming you understand its pros and cons -id see the big one being the HDMI if you need to entaertain a client or director.

I didn't say YouTubers don't work hard or don't do competent work. My point is their needs are different as they exist in a bubble. Their own bubble. They don't have clients who need monitors or have particular workflows or other on set or in post needs.

To me, the R5C is a B cam. An amazing B cam, but a B cam all the same. I've got great usage out of my R5, the new version will fill in the gap between that camera and my A-cam.

Can you use the R5C as an A-cam? Yes, of course you can. Should you though? Probably not as there are better options for video, I agree.

Their own bubble.

Thats it ther are many bubbles many tubers need a 'indoor stationary A cam' sony has been eating that market due to easy audio. I think its a market i wasnt aware of.

You hae a 500 and an r5c.. thats exactly where Id like to be.. but for now im C200 and r6 :)

(my choice is not at all random, I even have an fs7 rotting in the cupoard)

We have essentialy made the same choice, just mine is the poor mans version.

Removing the IBIS and "glueing" the processor to the heat sink was the most efficient and most economical way to guarantee that no overheating in all modes happens. Probably Canon could have build a camera from the scratch with full size HDMI port and a tricky system with IBIS and super cooling - but it would have taken much longer to bring it out and you would have complained about the size and price. Removing the IBIS was imho not happening to protect the sales of the R5 - as much as I wished the R5c was the
all-in-one device suitable for every purpose

this trick is for Youtubers only who have no commercial clients looking over their sholders

Oh, come on...you don't have 30 seconds in your day to reset the timer?

Maybe you truly don't, but surely your commercial clients who allow you to shoot commercial work on a stills camera that shoots video cannot be that demanding.

Honestly I didn't consider it as I would never want to risk a fail by off the book tricks. It's not about the clients to allow me to use a camera. I use the camera that suits the best for the situation. I never had any discussion about that.

I should have added :2vrolijk_08:to my 1st reply.

The sensor and the processor are two separate components. The sensor is the only thing that moves with in body ibis, processor is stationary. All that was needed to dissipate heat was a heat sink, a fan and a small air channel. The reason Sony mirrorless cameras don't over heat is because they implemented method for air flow. This isn't ground breaking, in fact it's pretty common both of my camcorders have a small vent and fan that always runs quietly in the background. If you watch the video you can see they attached no heat sink to the cpu in the R5. Like they went out of their way to ensure it would over heat if used for video. Again cpu heat management has nothing to do with IBIS. Actually it would be more work to remove ibis than simply updating the heat management of the R5.

Repeating myself, but the external recorder on R5 - the one and only Atomos Ninja 5 - has been getting nice reviews. That's one way to avoid the overheating while still getting IBIS. And a relatively inexpensive recording media to boot.

The better one, the + version, costs a $1000. And that's cool, but might as well then just get the R5 C and use the digital IS with lens IS as best as possible.

only if you trust the flimsy micro HDMI port and if you don't need 120p. Unfortunately 120p is where all my overheating happens. And it happens very fast and even faster if you forget to switch the camera off when you do not record.

In this day and age no one should be relying on a sh!tty mini-HDMI connection. I'd rather they didn't put it there. It makes me shudder to think of all the people who have their day ruined by that connection.

Ha
its like the fs7.. if a function was dodgy .. like luts apart from when you in slo mo or playback.. or it was the 16th of the month.. or full moon.. it was best just to think .. 'this camera does not have luts'

Yup. Focus on what you can do not what you can't.

Saw this on Farcebook just now:

Snowball is rolling and can't be stopped now. Wasn't rolling before it.
