Cinema EOS Announcement on 19th Jan - EOS R5C

So... ....who's ordered an R5C? I'm just deciding how to accessorise mine so I'm interested to hear how anyone else might be using and rigging the camera.

Z CAM was the first with that design although RED has had its general boxes, brains for much longer so depends on perspective.

But it's hard to believe that Canon rendering is accurate.

I have one on order which the dealer will kindly use as demo if I decide not to keep it.
I have to see first how stabilization works for stills.

My first thought was that it makes no sense without IBIS but after three days
struggling with 120p overheating I might rethink it

So Canon's specialty cine-mirrorless camera gets 1 buy and 1 maybe from dvxuser? Not exactly a stellar showing...

To take a tangent from this tangent, I learned the word "requel" today in an article about the new Scream. It's like a remake but it's written as a continuation of the original story and typically reprises the original actors, but now as the mentor generation to the new actors who play out a new iteration of the original story. I'm not opposed to that idea. But force awakens sucked
Movies have become more like TV and TV has become more like movies. Lucas popularized the idea of the commoditization of a movie to things outside of the theater, games, toys, tv series, etc. Once you create a universe then that IP can milked a million different ways and you have a built in fan base to sell to. As amazing as the original story of Star Wars this is the after effect we have to live with today. Hollywood is all about, sequels, prequels and now requels. With streaming services replace both theaters and tv we have this terrible endless recycling of the same idea/characters/story. The meme is quiet fitting. More, More, More!

Makes me wonder if there is room for non-franchise movies anymore.

The patent system is very broken.

The camera design isn't really patent protected. The electronics may be and, even there, it's mostly sensor and the lenses.

BTW, the same goes for car designs. Ferrari managed to prevent the replica kit manufacturers from using its trademarked logo but that's about it.

Will be interested to see what you think of it.

I get so tired of Canon crippled. Despite what they said there is no reason it shouldn’t have Ibis other than to insure each model has a key a unique weakness. This is a not so subtle way of saying the R5 is primarily a photo camera and the R5c is primarily a video camera.

As much as I see the missing IBIS as a big downside I am very sure that it was the technical reason of heat conduction that made Canon fix the sensor. We have been used to the cripple hammer but I don't think there was one.

I think it wont really sell as it doesnt have any USP that people want. Whoe cares about 8k that cant show a picture to a client.

There was a survvey of YT heros and the camera they use.. it was mainly Sony and the reason seemed to be a simple audio workflow being the bit of junk stabbed onto the hotshoe.

(to be fair I conncluded this to be quite a 'big deal')

This camera to some extent stops the rot on that front.

There was a video where someone fixed the R5 heating issue by opening up the back adding a heat sink to the processor and a fan.

What heat? Haven't you just been resetting your R5's timer when the warning comes up?

I couldn't care less what cameras YouTubers use. They exist in their own space and only a few have knowledge and experience of real world professional usage ie jobs where someone pays you for what you do and how you do it.

The R5C is a no-brainer for me. RAW LT, XAVC, timecode, limitless recording and the same menu as my C500MKII make it worth swapping my R5 for. All these things make my life easier. The fact it can shoot 8K without overheating is just a bonus.

NB. And if these YouTubers are choosing their A-cam based on the audio workflow I have even less respect for them LOL

I think that some YTers are acctully working hard doing a lot of competent content. (mabe about flower arranging, or dog grooming not cameras/lenses/lights!) I can see that pulling XLR into a sony was a big winner vs not plugging in XLR to an R5 R6 5d2

Personally I hate those top audio jobbies - too flimsy... but my job is not sitting behihnd a desk talking and for that they are fine.

Having had some need to simple audio recently Ive found myself picking the c200/8bit (proper naked even stripped off the viewfinder) over the R6 and a bag of nds and audio hacks.

The r5c is clearly a very good camera which works for you and will serve you well assuming you understand its pros and cons -id see the big one being the HDMI if you need to entaertain a client or director.
