Wow, I've never seen a film quite like that. Utterly stunning. Wonderful visuals and music.

I just read your method on the first page and now I'm even more impressed.

Great work, congrats!

I myself have wanted to mess around with a verticle image for a while. I think you made great use of a really interesting idea but part of me wonders why this couldn't have just been shot horizontally.

I think the effect works super well at times. All of the shower stuff and some of the scenes when he's leaving the house look like they might as well be in a commercial. I feel like you could make some money off this technique.

It's a short and sweet little film. Sometimes the effect just doesn't work for me though. Regardless, i applaud the technique and format.

great work and congrats.

sorry to spill this over two threads.

I just watched it again after that viewing because i had a bunch of the images in my head (which is obviously a good thing). I really really think you guys should explore this style some more, i think you could do some really great stuff with it.

It certainly COULD have been shot horizontally, (although Kevin is 6'5" so it might've cut off his head a bit :)) but I was keen to experiment with the vertical frame on an already arts'y piece.
I didn't really have a reason for it, but have since found one, and it has to do with how we sometimes have blinders on in life. Tunnel vision, if you will. So now, I think the vertical frame somehow signifies that we see what we want to see, even in the afterlife. I experimented with a perfectly square frame, starting on the vertical frame for the beginning, then rotating to horizontal at the end, and it was semi-cool, but I didn't end up doing that for a bunch of reasons.

It would be a great help to know exactly which parts people feel the effect doesn't work. I've seen it so much that I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore now.

Thanks for the comments! Much appreciated.

We just might. Any ideas you got... send them our way.

Thanks!

Dude! What a cool film! Most creative dvxfest entry EVER. Visually stunning. I loved the highly stilized look (the gf said that too), the white bedroom, her white clothes, the paints on the floor, the crazy monitor setup, the huge bed, the shower scene, the super slow-mo shower scene, and most of all, the two of them penguin-walking into the sunset.

Fabulous. Thanks for making this, I had fun watching it.

A week later and this film is still blowing my mind. Like an acid trip that you can turn off.. but then wanna go see again... not that I've, um.. you know.. done acid or anthing so I wouldn;t know what that was like....

Dude, way to bring the bizarre and knock us off out collective asses. It worked well for the look of the film. It distracts a little from the story, where you have to watch it again just to be sure you're not looking at the VFX and trying to figure out how a particular shot was done. it may have not been the strongest story but it was a VERY VISUAL story and you told it exactly like it deserved to be told.

Awesome dude and here's to round 2!

B- Plot/Continuity
B Character Development/Acting
A- Music/Singing
B+ Directing/Editing
A Cinematography/Special Effects
Overall B+

Feeling more like a music video than a short. No dialogue piece. Nothing wrong with that seen some wonderful independent films with no Dialogue. Learn from the comments and gratz on Top Ten

Wow. Thanks Gabriel. Good to see you around here again. Now I must go deflate my ego a little, lest I explode. :) Quick! Somebody write a scathing review!

Cool, man! I'm like... your drug dealer. The first one is free, then I might need to start charging. :) You're right, the story is a little vague, ambiguous, and open-ended, but hopefully it's still there. Seems like most people don't connect with the story that much.

Thanks for watching and breaking it down in "report card" form.

I don't usually like stuff that's solely done as a gimmick, but I liked it. I still woulda like to see some dialogue done this way. Difficult yes, but done well woulda been epic.

very cool piece. it felt gondry-ish with the morphs and the tricks. must have taken a lot of planning. good stuff!
