just got manhatten 8.9" LCD

johnzo,

do you have any plans to ad a panasonic or canon or sony or IDX or V-mount battery mount option to the back of your monitor? or even 4 pin XLR?

Do you happen to have a picture of one of your cases. If you do I'd like to see your config. I'll have to stop buy Home Depot and check them out.

Hey Home Depot has aluminum cases any day of the week for $19.95 brand new. In the hardware department is where I found them. Nice professional look when you show up on the job with all matching cases. Have them for audio equipment, cables, location monitors, etc. Inside has removable walls that can be custom configured. Line bottom with foam if you wish.

We do have plans for a 4 pin XLR, but there is a problem. Most power bricks are not 12v regulated, and that can burn up the controller.
We were going to install a 6-26v power regulator inside the monitor, with a XLR port. With optional battery plates. But this will increase the price about $75. The power regulator is very expensive, and I can't find anything cheaper. So in our store, there would be a option to add the power regulator and XLR port for $75. This would allow to use power bricks, and camera batteries.
What do you guys think about that? Its almost better to buy the Tekkeon battery.

Yeah I'd much rather have the option then have to pay for something I personally won't use. I think I'm going to get an HD089B in a few weeks, any chance of you extending the dvxuser discount?

No Problem, I will refund difference.

A note on 1:1 pixelmapping: For example if you feed the monitor 1080p and it was set to 1:1, the monitor will only show the top left 1024x600 pixels of the 1920x1080 image. However, if you send 480p to the monitor, and it was set to 1:1, it would show the 720x480 image in the center of the 1024x600 matrix. But on the 16:9 setting, the monitor will show 480p, 576p, 720p, and 1080p in a 1024x576 (16:9) matrix.

Monitor just arrived at here (TOKYO)!
Just 4 days from order, its very fast! and nice packing.

I will test with EOS 5DmkII and HVR-Z7J.
Many thanks!

I used the 12v LION battery that came with my Varizoom and Glidecam monitors..It seems to work fine..AM I hurting the monitor at all?

No picture of my case but just swing into a Home Depot/hardware department. Amongst the drill presses and such are the aluminum cases. Man they are even shrink wrapped!

I just finished using it on a big shoot. Its a great monitor and better than the Marshall monitors when it comes to quality and price. Compare the specs and price...

The big differences are the connectors on the Manhattan monitors are not BNC, it does not have a blue only button for calibrating (other ways to do that), flexible battery options are not available and no sun hood solution unless you make your own, or use black wrap.

These are minor inconveniences compared to the image quality and control you get. The Marshall monitors are junk. I've worked with them.

If you need HDI or SDI out then you have to go down another road. Component is good enough for most shoots. The Manhattan is a great spare monitor on big pro set and most likely will get used.

Is there a way to mount the Tekkeon battery to the back of the monitor? I know Zeph's company, Gearninja, sells Tekkeon battery housings, but was wondering if the battery could backpack on the monitor.

No there isn't. Its either velcro, a canvas monitor bag or designing your own support system. I'm sure the people at Manhattan are working on something for both the battery and sun hood.

They said they were building a sun hood soon. As far as the tekkeon batter, a couple of good quality pieces of velcor are more than enough. I put on an extra coule of pieces over it and works very well.. even carrying it around and handing it off to people.

This monitor is awesome for the price. Professional looking image for a fast food price. I don't think I'd ever consider buying a Marshall or Ikan after using this. I shot with it for a good 10 plus hours today and it just looks really nice.. Is so lightweight and easy to use. It's a killer deal and the guys are cool for passing along their good R and D.

Hey Justyn, I use two Tekkeon batteries one for the zylight and another for my FS 4 on the DVX. I bought two heavy duty Cordura meter (as in multi-meter) holsters at The Home Depot. They have a strap to hold the battery in the holster with velcro,a belt hook, a small pouch on the main one to hold the cable and there is loop on the back that allows you to slide the pouch over a light stand to the first set screw.
They cost $10.00 Cdn. each and look like they were made for the job. You will find them in the tool bag section of HD.
Cheers

Damn, ofourse I just hear about this monitor now. It's 12:49am on 2/26, and I just found out the coupon ended 2/25. Haha. Hopefully, John can bend a little a count me in.

Prices are outstanding. I was about to order a NEB70HDS but I think I'm gonna save some dough and try my luck on the B version of the monitor $599 vs $2000 is no contest. However, I've used a NEB70HD for over a year now and while I'm realistic about what the differences will be I'm hoping this monitor will exceed expectation.

Any reports of RED + mlcd via HDMI? I know RED is sometimes picky about what panels you send HDMI feed to. Some work, some dont.

Regardless, I'll let you know how it goes. This is more for the HVX/adapter combo, but having that compatability between cameras is just a bonus.

No offense to you ( really) BUT...
- 22" is ridiculous on location because the 8.9 MLCD and the 7.2" ( which is the one I personally use) are mountable on the same tripod or bracket as the camera.

Yeah really. Why not roll out a 50" plasma screen while you're at it?
