"FALLING UP" a Flyin' Monkey Films production

True...but it looks like you have some cool gear and a bunch of talent...so make sure to drink plenty of fluids and keep shooting! I'm looking forward to this one.

Thanks dude. The gear is the reason I'm broke. I've spent the last 5 years getting bits and pieces all together, one piece at a time. Definitely worth it since it gives much more flexibility on set... but oh I remember the days of missing or malfunctioning equipment... fun times... fun times...

2 days and 2 shoots.

Friday's shoot was a continuation from earlier in the week and I was completely prepared this time around since I had been on location and had some time to really think around my original shotlist. Some shots definitely had to go right out the window, while others... could be enhanced.

I had picked up 4 used Matthews light stands for $100 total that same morning, thanks to Craigslist and the previous night I bit the bullet and made a couple of 15lb sandbags. I knew I was mostly going to be on my own on friday, since Jake couldn't make it until after 3:00PM and I still hadn;t heard from Robbie if he was making it or not. So I figured that a little extra support wouldn't hurt. Some cutting, a little bit of sewing... and 20 minutes later I had myself my first 15lb sandbag.. or "saltbag" since I ended up using roadsalt in ziplock baggies. Worked great though.

First test of the Saltbags came on Friday for the first dolly shot. My DIY Hi-hat had fallen apart on me and the tripod wasn;t going anywhere near low enought, so sandbag to the rescue. I can;t believe I'd forgotten how damn useful sandbags were. It's only been about 6 months since I;d last used them, but damn! I'm making 6 more 25lbs this week.

Anyway, got the shots of Mark before Jessica showed up, and even reshot the beroom scene, this time with the Brevis turned on, and some color in the scene. Hell, i even switched lenses and used my 28mm to the shot. That was pretty much a gateway usage as the addition dolly shots with jessica and mark were so tight that I HAD to use the 28mm more and more. After all, we're going for a more open feeling rather than the claustrophobia of extreme closeups.

The rest of the day whizzed by and we flew Mark, beat him up a bit (thanks Jess) and got off the official poster shots (thanks Meaghan).

Saturday:
Met up with James Dalzell, BJ Jeroy and Aaron Peever at the Beer Store (an actual place in Toronto) and then headed over to Aarons apartment to shoot some supplemental footage to be used in the opening sequence. A lot of the little shits were quite funny, but there's quite a bit that's going to hit the editing room floor (figuratively speaking of course). Looks like we're going to have lots of bonus content for the DVD, but that never hurts right? Bonus content is always such a cool thing.

Anyway, gotta do some editing tomorrow. i forgot the camera on both days, so no BTS or blog... and those were the best days for BTS too.

Next time I won't be so remiss in my duties...

I'm impressed with how much BTS you have been able to include! I don't know how you find the time to do it. Usually I try and cram so much into a shoot day I'm lucky if I get the footage for the actual film...much less BTS.

Hmm...I think I need to learn how to schedule better!

Looking good man! Can't wait to see the film (and some outtakes after the competition...?).

Today is going to be packed. We've got some reshoots to do for the first day, pickup shots for the other scenes AND we're going to fly Mark today and then run out to the coffee shop for the last scenes. Insanity anyone?
