HPX to new MacBook Pro

Besides getting a duel adapter, is there any way to get my P2 footage from my HPX170 to my new MacBook Pro? The new 15" MacBook Pro only has a FireWire 800 slot(no firewire 400), USB 2.0, and express card/34 slot. Is there a cord I can go out and get at a circuit city or best buy that will let me start offloading the stuff today? I would like to do some test shoots but soon. What are my options beside the duel adapter?

Firewire 800 - 400 converter cable. Haven't used one personally but can't say I've heard anything negative about that workflow. Dual Adapter will be 3 - 4 times faster though.

panny makes that 5 card reader, but it costs about as much as a macbook pro.. other than that, yup. and i've been using the duel adapter for about 2 years. the first models had some issues but those have been cleared up. and besides, you don't want to rely on your camera as your offloading solution. its good to be able to still keep shooting while a card is offloading, that is if you have 2 cards.

You could use a P2 Store, you could use a direct FW400->FW800 cable, you could use a Duel Adapter, you could use the P2 Gear or P2 Portable or P2 Mobile, you could use the 5-slot reader, or you could connect a Windows laptop through gigabit ethernet and use that as your card reading device.

So I got the Duel Adapter and downloaded the P2CMS. I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.5, so according to the Duel Adapter website I don’t need a driver for Duel Adapter. I also downloaded the “P2 driver software for Win and Mac” from the Panasonic site(https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/download.htm), but am not sure if it loaded correctly.

Anyway, when I load the write-protected p2 card into the duel adapter, the P2CMS software does not recognize it… nothing happens. There are no clips showing in the P2CMS window, although I can see the clips on the card when it is in the camera.

Is there something I am missing? Have I downloaded everything I need?

nevermind that previous post. i got the computer to recognize my p2 card; i hadn't installed the p2 driver correctly.

now the problem is this: i was copying over p2 footage via P2CMS. i got three quarters of the way done when my a message saying i had to restart my macbook pro came up. i think i read somewhere (either dvx user or creative cow)that other people were having this same problem, but i don't think that thread had any solutions. has anyone else encountered this problem? is this related to my particular setup(duel adapter, P2CMS, macbook pro running 10.5.5)?

p2/duel adapter/avid MC issues

p2/duel adapter/avid MC issues

I'm having the same problem with my Macbook pro freezing. At first it was happening only when I tried to offload a bunch of clips, i.e. I was able to offload clips one by one, but that also stopped working. My setup seems to be the same... duel adapter and a new macbook pro. Has anyone found a solution to this? After I restart the computer, sometimes it won't recognize the P2/duel adapter either.

Also, I'd like to import the offloaded clips into Avid MediaComposer and have not had much luck with what I thought was the obvious way. What would be the proper way to do this or a good resource to use for figuring out settings, etc.? I am new to macbook pro and just recently bought my own HVX200A, so these are my first encounters with P2 workflow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Three is a trend, I'd assume we aren't the only ones either.

Background:
Very new user to the P2 system, have a HPX172EN, MacBook Pro 17in (2007 model) 10.5.6, 4gigs ram, FCP Studio 2 and a duel link adapter. I believe I installed the drivers correctly as they appear on the desktop and in the P2CMS.

My experience with the Panasonic capture device has been a nightmare, after trying the "ingest" route for a while and corrupting files left right and centre and more furstratingly the "the curtain of darkness" with the multi language warning to restart by holding power key. Anything over 800meg-1gig would cause the system to crash.

The local sales rep showed me the copy to HD option. Went home thinking thank goodness, all fixed. After more testing the same result. It would download up to 1gig of information in a hit (didn't matter if it was 1 file or 20) then, "the curtain of darkness" again with the multi language warning to restart by holding power key.

At the moment I'm using the dual adapter and directly importing into FCP using the "log and transfer" method and it seems to be working better however I have read in another tread that the dual adapter is effectively rubbish as it causes a mac system to crash EVERY SECOND CARD?!?! that you put in and requires a full restart to make it work.

After all that I seem to have something that barely works.

If anyone of the legends here have any tips please let me know.

Thanks guys

Peter

my mac book freezes up about once every 4 hrs or so and when you plug in a dual adapter you get it to register once then you take it out ,you will have to restart the macbook pro and stick it in again to have it come up. it,s a pain. i have the 2.33 17in. with 4 gb ram . i put in a new 7200 rpm 320gb hd , and had my mac dealer run a clean up program on my laptop, it is better but still gets frozen once in awhile . just keep hitting the save prodject file or slam my head agaist the wall to remember to hit the save project button.
