64GB P2 Card announcment

I am honestly hoping this will be the last Panasonic product that I ever buy as I hope RED will offer something that I can migrate to in the future and I really lost just about every bit of respect I had for Panasonic with the slippery details that were used to sell me the 170.

What "slippery" details are you referring to?

Honestly, I don't really want to derail this thread about the 64 GB card...

If you step through the various threads of my previous posts, you probably see a lot of the issues.

I bought the 170 (sight unseen from a retailer who would not allow me to return it unused - my mistake - never again) over the EX1 with information from two direct Panasonic representatives that did hold up to be true and one major selling point has yet to hold true, but might eventually...

I'm not particularly unhappy with the 170, I just don't like being misled to about specific features prior to, and immediately upon, its release.

It's all moot now anyway....

...This morning I recieved an email from nNovia that contained a PDF document on their new ProFlex 100 hard drive recorder that will be released mid-December. This new drive supports DVCPro 25/50 and DVCPro HD 100 720P/1080i formats on removeable hard-drive media packs. ( $300 for a 120 GB media-pack )

Sure it's not as compact as a 64 GB card, but the media cost is a lot more reasonable provided you don't mind dealing with the size and the battery power required by the unit. ( I am also wondering if an OCZ solid-state 120 GB drive could be adapted to work with this unit. The OCZ drive sells for less than $600 in Canada )

Was the pdf attached to the email, or was it a link? If it was a link, any way you can post?

Could you briefly stated what specific features weren't included and how you were mislead?

Honestly, I have followed the discussions here quite closely over the last few months and I don't have the energy to post, counter-respond, etc... I have articulated all of these issues in other threads, that were on topic for those issues.

In a positive direction, I do want to point out that Abel Cine does have the 64 GB cards in stock. Matt at 212-462-0146 is the person that handles those sales.

I wasn't going to argue

And it's a little difficult to go through 25 pages of posts in this thread or locate other threads to find yours.

But thanks anyway.

Perhaps he would be willing to post a link to the referenced threads?
(that would make it easier).

Well, I search this thread by user name:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/search.php?searchid=3411683

And there is nothing there about some sort of false representation, at least in this thread.

CW-35 states that he received "information from two direct Panasonic representatives that did hold up to be true and one major selling point has yet to hold true, but might eventually..."

This was described as a "the slippery details that were used to sell [him] the 170."

It would be courteous to either point to the post he made explaining this, or state it again.

But to each their own.

Also would like you to post PDF... Googled "Proflex 100" and came up with toupee adhesive pads...

ProFLEX is a new DVCPRO HDD from nNovia. I have used their DV25 Quck Capture HDD for three years with my Sony DSR-450WS DVCAM camera and am helping them with product development by providing test footage and camera access.

It promises to be a better form factor for full size cameras, less cost, and more impervious to shock than a FireStore FS-100. The media is removable, it can be powered from any DC voltage between 7.2V-14.4V, so inexpensive palmcorder batteries could be used or V-Mount or Anton-Bauer batteries as well.

I should have a Beta test unit in my hands very soon.

I am curious if anyone has put the purported/claimed speed increase of the 64 GB P2 card to the test yet?

I did today:

Using a duel adapter, macbook pro & copying the P2 cards to a 1 TB Western digital "my book studio edition" via firewire 800 -

16 GB card - 14.66 GB of recorded material (FULL) - transfer time 7:58 min = 1.84 GB/min transfer speed

64 GB card - 24.02 GB of recorded material - transfer time 13:09 min. = 1.82 GB/min transfer speed...

So, apparently, today on my machine, my 64 GB card transfers slower than my 16 GB card..

Both cards were formatted prior to use using Panasonic's "P2 Formatter" application on the mac and it was the first shoot for both.

Aren't the 64 GB cards claimed to be 25 % faster ?....

or are the 16 GB cards that shipped with the 170 the same speed as the new 64 GB cards?
