Hello all,

Many debates arose when the 64GB card was announced. Well, it's coming this month!

Interesting price structure too.

List price:
16GB - $900
32GB - $1650
64GB - $2600

Pricing on the 16GB and 32GB cards stayed the same and the 64GB card was added.

We will be posting our price on the 64GB cards very shortly so please keep your eyes open!

Wow.. that's not really a good deal or break at all.... so they might be 2200 or so retail.? Panasonic needs to get more competitive with this stuff or P2 might get the cold shoulder. I happily just jumped over to the 150. 80 bucks for an Panasonic SD card that shoots 100 minutes of HD at any flavor seems like a darn good thing to me. I also don't notice any real differences in image quality between the DVCpro cams and the 150... and compared to my HVX200, I think it's better.... and I can roll for 8 hours now without backing up a single card and if I spend a couple of hundred more bucks.. then I'll be able to roll for 16 hours without a dump.

Is Panasonic updating the speed on the 16GB and 32GB cards to be 800 Mbps versus the old 640 Mbps? I know the new 64GB card is 800 Mbps

why no price drop on the 32's now that the 64's are arriving? Ive been patiently waiting fort the 64's figuring the 32's would drop in half much like the 4's and 8's did.

probably because they know that 32's are very desirable and hit the spot, especially when recording 720 (you get almost three hours with two cards). This has to be panasonics most popular card

WILL THERE BE A PRICE DROP ON 32'S AND IF NOT, WHY????

well, it does make sense to me that the 64 GB is not double the price of the 32's. I have never really understood the fact the larger cards were generally 2X the cost of the smaller size because it doesn't make sense from a manufacturing standpoint ( & I don't care to debate it. )

I think price will be dictated by demand, obviously, but the economy will probably factor in quite soon as well.

I personally need to buy a larger card and would be a little concerned about having everything riding on one big card, versus too smaller cards.

it doesn't make sense to me that two 64g cards almost top the price of an HPX170...technologically speaking, it's more complicated to built an entire video camera than a simple storage card even if it's a very complicated one...

man, i'm seriously considering selling my hvx200a and picking up the hmc150. it wasn't released when i bought the 200a in april.

i need to take a long look at my needs. maybe p2 just isn't for me. i shot an event this weekend with my hvx and a friend's hmc. the pros of the 150 may outweigh the cons in my case. the biggest pro being that i don't have to buy or rent expensive p2 cards.

I had *hoped* for a price deal with the announcement of the 64 gig cards, but the fact that one is not forthcoming sadly comes as no surprise.

Disappointing is an understatement. Panasonic will lose customers over this one. We're being penalized for the proprietary form factor and I'm not buying the line about how much it costs to construct a P2 card. Granted it is a complex device which does cost a lot to manufacture. However it does not cost THAT much more to drop four 16 Gb SD cards into an otherwise similar P2 card and we all know how much memory prices have dropped since the prices were set on the (unchanged) 16 and 32 cards. How many of you have been waiting on the sidelines for a price reduction at the 64's release? Most, I would wager. I'm sure we were all hoping to see under $2k for the 64 and the 32's dropping to around $1k. $2600 for one P2 card in this economy? Good luck Panasonic, you're obviously not expecting to sell these to your independent base.

Just to bring a little perspective:

The 64GB card now cost more than a brand new 2.53GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro.

I know there's a lot involved in producing these cards, top quality memory and all, but this is too much.

i'm definitely in that camp. seeing how i've just caught wind that's it's now a matter of days until i lose my day job due to the crap economy, you can count me out on buying more cards.

Oh my, I am obviously not myself, because I am almost ready to argue that it is actually a pretty good price for the 64GB card, assuming the actual street price is several hundred dollars cheaper, because I really expected to see it announced at something like $3500 or something.

But, I'll believe the price, a price, when I see it actually for sale and actually available to purchase. I bet it will be around $2k around NAB time.

Also, I doubt P can drop the price of the lower capacity cards, right now, as it would affect the price of their newly released cameras, which will probably happen, sooner than later due to the economy, etc.

:-Cry(DBG): Disappointing.

The paradigm shift this time around seems a lot less attractive . . .

I was hoping that the 64GB card would be under $2k. And I was especially hoping that the 32GB and 16GB cards were bumped down in price. I had been waiting on this because I wanted to pick up another 16GB card.

like i said, the 32's are the perfect card if you shoot 720 24PN. Is 64 better? yes!!! more is always better.

But with 32's at 720 24PN most will have more than enough to last a full day of shooting, even with documentary. Knowing this, of course, why would panasonic lower the price in half? To be nice? Business doesn't work that way.

And Ive seen 16GB for as low as $650. And that's not so bad

Just had to cancel my order from Spec-Comm. Their website says they have the hpx170 in stock but they do not on top of that I couldn't work out shipping with them. After all the good reviews about speccom I can't believe they failed so terribly. Back to B&H

If I remember correctly, isn't UPS ground shipping free?

I'd give them a second chance. They're usually pretty good about keeping their website up to date, so if they didn't update to reflect their lack of stock they probably already have some on their way in that haven't arrived yet.

i have to second this. i have nothing but excellent things to say about spec-comm. they are my first stop for everything video related.

i'd try pm'ing andrew. i think his user name is just spec-comm.

This sucks, I won't be buying more P2 cards anytime soon. Possibly never again because Scarlet will be out in a year and then it's by by hvx.

Has anyone wondered if Panny is abandoning the P2 cards or will be in the future with the latest news of Maxel and Fuji now making them?
