64 gb P2 Card

I would love to have P2 but my project won't be a money maker for some time. The firestore fits well and would be PERFECT except for the 4pin connector on the HVX. I'm considering hacking in a 6pin connector just to overcome the only problem I've had... disconnects due to the cable being bumped. Be mindful of the cable and there is no problem with Firestore...

Be mindful of the sounds it makes when it drives spin too!

If your work is audio sensitive, make sure you get a long Firewire cable to keep the FS-100 out of the mic's range. Just tips from my time with a FS demo unit.

Every time I buy a Panasonic product they drop the price, add some great rebate or new feature. When I purchased the HVX a week later they offered a rebate including the 16GB card. When I purchased the BTLH80W 7 or 8 minutes later Panasonic offered the 80WU with the HD-SDI. So after getting burned a few times I have been holding off on buying any new cards until they release the 64GB.

The only gripe I have about the price of P2 cards is that people are now aware of their value, especially their re-sale value, so you really have to keep an eye on them.

News just in!

News just in!

I emailed customer services from the panasonic europe website - wish I'd done it sooner coz they replied straight away saying that 64GB will be available by the end of the month - and gave me a UK RRP, which is what I asked for - of £1,600 +VAT

Aka: £1,820

Thats more expensive than I was hoping :-(
I think they have traditionally been less expensive in the states, but not sure what the unusual pound-dollar ratio will make of this

One of the Panasonic reps at DV Expo in LA said "by the end of November", but I was talking to someone at another booth and he said the 64GB card would be in the $3000-3500 range, so it probably wouldn't drive down prices on the 32GB or 16GB

The 64GB Card is online on the Swiss Panasonic Website for 2899.- Swiss Francs ex. VAT That's about 2'450.- US$ right now without taxes. The official Swiss price is always a little high, so I expect the street price about 10% less.

Hi,

I hope the length of this thread doesn't bury this announcement, but the Marketing Bulletin went out this weekend and the going list price fot he 64GB card is $2600. There will be initial deliveries by the end of November. The card also has a speed revision to 800mbs moving up from the 640mbs. That is a read or write speed.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Are they now using faster memory like level 8 or were they able to eliminate a bottle neck in the way the cards are constructed?

Does this mean we will see download speeds over 1,000mbs or faster in the future?

Well, if the 64GB card runs $2600.00, I would not be surprised if the 32 GB cards run half that price MSR.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I would be interested to know how many of those will be sold at this price.
If they sell it, it's all good for Panasonic.
If they don't...

I saw the faster speeds are a clear indication of Panasonic's path. I mean... it doesn't matter how many sell, they will. Networks are using P2 now. They love it. Now that they have a card they can go out all day with and quickly offload with... I think they'll buy in.

It is Panasonic Broadcast not Panasonic Indie. So I see where they're focused! Go team!

Hey guys & gals,

Jan needs footage for NAB.

I think we should support her, not sure if she wants reality tv stuff but I will be offering in the next day or two.

Time to step up.

there is no reason for a price like that on the 64gb cards.. especially when alternative formats exist.. personally i think even big companies will think twice about getting p2 cards at that price.. its not that they cant afford them.. it's just there are cheaper and as stable alternatives out in the market and even big companies consider costs.. because they wouldnt be buying 1 or 2 cards. And as far as the 16 and 32 not dropping in price thats even more rediculous than the price of the 64 card.. i guess all we can do is hope for a price drop.. i had my eye on getting a 32 card but not at that price.. :/

I don't understand why people seem to think $900 is fine for a 16GB P2 card (and many people have more than one), and $1600 is ok for a 32, but $2600 is outrageous for a 64.

Here's the math:

-Four 16s (64 GB) would cost you $3600...
-Two 32s (64 GB) would cost you $3200...
-One 64 (64 GB) would cost you $2600...

What's not to like?
