"Dead Week" - A film by Kyle Stebbins (and company)

Kyle!! Loved your film, man! Looks like you found a niche here. This was a really cool piece and so entertaining. I liked the credits, the story, the action and everything. I even thought the acting was really on point all accept when the main character takes off running after he tried to help the infected lady by her car. Him running and then stopping by that window - that acting seemed too contrived, but other than that little minor detail, I thought everything was awesome. Funny, exciting and entertaining all at the same time and that's not easy to do. Keep it up!

after a 2nd viewing okay 3rd viewing......

Credits and editing were good. The acting worked pretty well. the old film grain was not to my taste,
this film just did not need it. The gun fight at the end did not seem to fit to me. I would have liked to see those guys go hand to hand with bats, pipes, fists rather then pull out guns. it was funny, seemed a lot like Shaun of the dead to me. good flick.

I'm personally not into the whole joking/spoof type movies, and especially when you have one frame images that REALLY ruined the joking/spoof look, EVEN MORE.

But aside from that, fantastic editing. The edit where the fight scene is in the school (underground?) really worked, and it was really cool. The hazy, frame rate skippy edit looked really neat.

Nice images. My friend didn't like the "death proof" look you gave throughout, and it kind of bugged him. He said at one point, "Thank god it's not happening anymore," and just as he said that, it started up again, pretty funny. I, however, didn't mind it, I just thought it could've used more work. Maybe more scratchy and blurry. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the blood splatter effect that appears on screen)

Acting was good, and I liked Jack Black, (who he reminds me of :)) after he is in the dorm hall way. He really changed his character and got all suspenseful and what not.

Good job on a funny, neat short!

This was fun and I could tell you guys had a good time making it. Really enjoyed the VFX, though the scratches were a little to opaque and stationary. Sound was very good especially the grindhouse elements.

something else! the pot head is quite good. looked like you took a million different chances and looks at this and some really worked for me and others, well, they sort of did? the look of blood splatter at the end was really cool. funny flick!

So I finally got to watching this one and the hype was definitely backed up.

Kyle, this was cool man! It had a lot of personality and was fun to watch. I thought the performances were pretty good for the story.

Nice job zombie masta...

Really entertaining film! I loved the opening for it and the only thing that bugged me was something with the smaller guys voice. I don't know what it was but it sounded odd, maybe just me though.Great Job!

Hey man,

Just caught the flick. I enjoyed it but I'm torn between really like it and kinda being so-so on it. I think the production value is really nice. I enjoyed the sytle in the intro and love your music there and titles. Canted angles and all, very nice. However, what did it have to do with the story? And that's what's hurting this piece for me.

I liked your actors for the most part. I think they both played it straight enough and found it really fun the way they worked with each other. I also thought a lot of the editing and the staging of the scenes were really nice. The smoothness of when Reg takes the other guy to the side of the building and the zombie's in the back ground from the start of that scene? Very nice. Same with the timing of the zombies coming out of the elevator. There were quite a few moments like that in this piece. Seeing Reg's reflection in the glass when the other guy is watching the TV? Also very nice.

And I found the film quirky yet grounded in reality enough to make it work. Some of the writing seems unmotivated ("Reg, you smoke pot?"" WHAY???? I thought that was already established??) but overall, I dug it.

The thing that hurts this film for me is 1) the technical aspects that some people mentioned (dirt being too predictable and not varied enough, etc.) and 2) I just felt there were a lot of things in here that didn't pertain to the story (i.e. the intro., the flashes of frames, etc.) unless I missed their overall significance.

But overall, a fun film that was entertaining with nice production value. THanks for sharing and I look forward to your other films.

Hey Kyle,

Zombie films aren't my cup of tea, but your pot head actor really made it for me. He did a great job, and your gun effects were pretty good. I didn't get the whole scratchy/skipping film effect. I think your short would have been better had that not been there. But overall, great job.

cheers,

Jon

10-4 on the pot line. I couldn't agree more.

The dirty film will be reworked and subdued. I will also be adding some subtle white artifacts as well as lines. I feel like that would have been a bit more effective. The key here, though, is to make them subtle and unobtrusive. -- I do feel like there are moments in the film when they are permissible (ex. the harsh cuts between scenes)

Thanks for the comments, guys!!

Daniellus: I loved Panic. Nice work.

Hey Kyle, great film. Had a lot of style and I can definately see where your influences come from. It looks like a lot of people have already mentioned what I was going to say about the simulated dust effect and some of the dialogue. I enjoyed your two main characters and their chemistry. It was a fun ride. Good job man!

I'm sitting here trying to render out DVD files.

Hey Kyle, think we can touch up some VFX shots if you're further playing with the dust and scratches? Maybe get rid of those cars for good? That storefront shot would look impressive on my reel; there's cars in the reflection too ;) Hell, nothing's stopping me from doing that and putting it on my reel anyway

Hey Kyle, I;ve been meaning to stop by to give my review, but so little time, so many films, and on occasion real work demands my attention. You know: deadlines and all. Anyway, enjoyed Dead Week. The others have touched on some of the flaws with the dirt and what-not, so I won;t rehash. Just wanted to say, good work and I like the direction your work is going. You've got a good feel for the style you're going for. Just round out some of your production and some of your timing with actors and editing and you'll have a much tighter production in the end.

While the film was enjoyable there was a kind of student filmmaker vibe to it and it's not even one thing that I can pin down. Just a vibe in general. Maybe it's the acting, which probably needed a touch more realism to take it out of that vibe... I dunno. Still i enjoyed it and saw a lot of potential in it which really can probably be fixed up in editing to just make it a little more impactful while keeping the comedic and grindcore edge to it.

Keep on impressing us dude.

****ing LOVE your titles. You have me upping the ante on my title sequences here.
