"Revenge Therapy" A Brian Parker Film

Whoa! That's a lot of work you put on the digital storyboards. Were they helpful? I had a storyboard artist do the first scene for me, but I stopped using them on the last scenes.

Yeah, they did help alot in terms of spatial planning. The 3D program also allows you to really manipulate the images with true focus, depth of field, etc. I've shot from the hip without storyboards before but I find having them on hand helps keep my mind sorted during filming.

Did you like shooting better with or without them?

Well. At the time of the shoot I found them useful, but just because I was using them as a guide to what I needed to shoot. But in the last shoot I just had the actors play the scene from many angles, for coverage. I could have done the same thing - actually, this is what I should have done for all the scenes - have the actor play it out in completion from all the different angles. That way I would have had more material to play with.

The way I storyboarded the film completely differs from the final edit. My lack of experience (this is my first film) is probably the reason.

Sometimes it can be better to not use storyboards, especially if there's some element of inconsistency with your location. I wanted to have them planned for "Revenge Therapy" because I wasn't going to be the DP and I wanted to make sure everybody was on the same page.

Thanks King Cole. Glad you like them.

Nice storyboards (that animated chick is HOT! )... I use Storyboard quick (they don't look as hot). Storyboards have saved my life.... that and a shot list. I couldn't have gotten both films done without that stuff.

Really... this looks great & I'm looking forward to it!

I love the storyboards!!!! Super cool. For a second I was like wait, did I look at this thread before? I know I would have remember those pics. Then I was like duh, georgeous asian girl, cool poster... I've been here before.

I love the idea of a storyboard but I mostly find them time consuming during pre-production... the reason is... often times my drawings never capture the spacial perception the camera lens will ultimately give me. I mostly use the shots to map out the edit in my head. However, as far as keeping the crew clued in, especially if you have a DP handling most of your camera set-up and lighting... I've seen it be priceless. More so when you and your DP have not worked together before. It makes the short hand language needed to convey what you want in the shot a lot simpler. (point to a picture) I need that angle there and if possible can you create more shadow there. etc...

I guess I am just too lazy to do that... and my DP is my brother so the short had is already there.

Yes, the storyboards are great. I really like your poster as well. Can't wait to check it out.

what 3d program did you use for the storyboards?

I want it to use it. They look great.

LOL ZazaCast. Thanks, I'm sure she would appreciate the compliment. I saw that you used the digital storyboards too which I thought was cool. Next project I want to try a shot list as well. Glad you're looking forward to it. Looking forward to yours as well.

Thanks Mike. Yeah, I added the BTS a little bit after I put up the page. I feel you on the storyboards. The first couple of projects, I didn't use them and then when I started doing quick sketches it helped. The program I used for this one is cool because you can literally set up very realistic cameras and lighting on the virtual set to depict what kind of images you want. I didn't go in depth with the lighting on the storyboards but it goes pretty deep.

Wow. Thanks JDS. I mean that. It's great to have people sotpping by and checking things out. Glad you like the storyboards and the title. Looking forward to seeing your film man. Thanks.

Thanks stinkpot. I'm just trying to get a poster as good as yours. Looking forward to checking your film out too.

Thanks rustes. The program I use is Poser. I've been using for a long time, back since the best final render you could get looked like those blocky 3D people back from music videos back in the early 90's. It's a pretty cool program and while it has it's little peculiarities, it is a great tool. If you render it at highest power you can actually get some great standalone artwork.

Here's a piece of art I did about a year ago.

Hey, Champloo. Glad to see you jumping in and glad to see it all worked out. Those shots side by side with the storyboards are cool. I have a storyboard program too that I should really use more, because it helps out tremendously. Can't wait to see what you guys did. Good luck, man!

Hey man,
Thanks for dropping by the "Analog" thread. Looking forward to this one: really digging the poster. I like the Poser artwork too. I played around with program a little when I was first starting video stuff. I never got too good at, but it seemed like there was a lot of potential with the program.

really good idea on the storyboards. Great for someone like me who cant draw for s**t but am happy around a 3D app. I might give this a go on my next short!

Didn't know where it was it going but when it got there....damn. Good work. Some similar elements to my film. The effects worked flawlessly. The music could have been darker, That is my one and only critique. But the vocal stuff that came in when she switched up worked. Good job. I thought the acting was on point as well.

Thanks Marlon. Yeah, the 3d storyboard programs can help out a lot. Looking forward to yours as well.

No prob Eustace. Glad you like the poster and storyboards. Poser is pretty cool but it can be tiresome sometimes dealing with all the props. I'll stop by your page after I've watched Analog.

Definately check it out Darkline. It can be a pretty useful app. Thanks for stopping by.

Heeey thanks filthrich. Glad you liked it man. Yeah, I have some things I'm going to rework on it and I feel you on the music being a little on the light side. May either redo it or have one of my friends do some work on it. I really appreciate you watching the film and stopping by. Thanks man.
