BEER.....From Europe. What's your fav?

I was recently turned on to Hoegarden, a white beer from Belgium. It is by far the most flavorful beer I have ever had. It makes me wonder how I was ever alright with Coor's light.

Anybody have a fav from Europe that they would recommend?

WHoooooo Garden! Great beer. I have a million favorites for different occasions. Chimay Red, Samuel Smith Oatmeal stout and Nut Brown. Murphy's Irish Stout (I prefer it to Guinness), Boddington's Pub Draught Ale which is one of the smoothest beers around. So many more...

Although common in the United States, my two favorite beers are Guinness and Blue Moon.

If you want to discuss rarity beer, Otterhead is pretty good. It comes in larger bottles and has a higher alcohol content... and still tastes great. Can't ask for more!

Another really good beer is "O'Hara's". I like it because of the name and taste. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/646/1751

"Delerium Tremens" is the name of a particular Belgian beer. It was named as "Best Beer in the World" in 1998 at the World Beer Championships in Chicago. I would definitely have to agree. After having drank it, all other beer seems to suck now. It's like a fine wine, with a complex and layered flavour. I highly recommend it.

I put down 7 or 8 Delerium's last St. Patti's day and was on the floor, I can drink 15-20 Bud Lights with no problem. My friends told me after I drank it that it has an extremely high alcohol content, something like 12%.

It's a beer that you should drink from a shot glass and not a mug.

Well, I have to recommend a beer from my region :D This kind of Beer is called "Kölsch" (Wiki).

As mark Johnson once mentioned
...

Simon may finally be the man who puts Cologne on the map for something besides its well known status as the first city in Germany with a tax for prostitution.

Remember, Kölsch is the only language you can drink, Simon.

(Wiki)

My favorite Kölsch is "Reissdorf Kölsch" and "Gaffel Kölsch". I know you can find it in the US, so you might give it a shot and let me know what you think :)

Smithwick's is quite tasty.

I'll also cast another vote for Tremens, but Delerium also has Nocturnum. A bit darker, just as potent, and also delicious. Though, when it comes to Belgian Ale, I have to say Chimay Ale white label is my favorite, red label coming in second.

Great post, so many choices.

Smithwicks comes to mind, especially since it's getting cold here. Good wintertime beer.
Kronenbourg
I just had a Spanish beer called Estrella that was great.

EDIT: Estrella Damm to be specific.

Kronenbourg 1664

This reminds me of a great story.

I was at party with my brother years ago and he sees this guy drinking Kronenbourg and my brother says to him "Excuse, what kind of beer is that? I've never seen that before" The guy replies with the most arrogant response like he was talking to a child "Oh THIS, this is Kronenbourg, you've probably never heard of it before cos it's imported" We ****ing lost it and laughed our asses off. We still do, anytime we see someone drinking it we always reenact that story. It comes up several times a year.

For me, I usually only drink European beer. Love Lowenbrau, Warstiener and Heineken.

Not from Europe...But I love Presidente, a pilsener from the Dominican Republic. Drank it like water when I was down there.
