HPX170 Lens Wobble Improved

Here's the response I got:

Jay

Unfortunately management has not yet decided where this unit is going to be upgraded. Please give us a call next week and we should have more details.

I'm very pleased with Jan's representative duties in providing her headquarters valid data & Panasonic's decision to halt production/shipping of these untis until they can/could determine the root cause of the variation in camera builds. This speaks of their integrity and commitment toward producing quality products and service. To keep shipping units that they could not be 100% sure of would be unprofessional, to say the least.

Anyone with some experience in Quality Control knows that out of control variation is bad news because it surfaces as random un/acceptable performance and therefor is confusing to analyze. This variation undermines users efforts and future plans, where it leads toward loss of confidence and eventually a bad reputation. This results in frustration for all parties, end user & manufacture. Stopping the production line and sorting out the confusion is a sign of true professionalism when design or assembly failure occurs. I applaud Panasonic's cool calm approach and I'm sure this incidence will be well remembered by the design engineers for a long time.

I sent my e mail about three hours ago.

I've not received a response.

It seems that the provided contact doesn't yet have information.

Hmmm i live in The Netherlands and companies like Vocas or Fofic don't even react if you ask for a quotation for a HPX170. I even contacted Panasonic Broadcast Europe, no reaction at all. So to be honest I think if I already would have a HPX, getting a fix would be impossible. Jan the US is very lucky having you. I just hope a rep. from Panasonic in Europe would stand up and look after us Europeans as you do for the US market. For me this is a show stopper !!

Hi Guys and Gals,

Just got out of the meeting and heres what you need to do. Keep in mind that this is for customers that are in the US only, no Canadian, Europe, or dow-under customers, you folks should contact Panasonic in the country where you reside. I am told that meetings like the one I just had are taking place all over the world this week.

Now for those of you in the US, we will be receiving the parts this week Friday and will be able to start fixing cameras next week. Please contact pbtscservice@us.panasonic.com to set up an appointment for your camera to be fixed.

Thanks for being so patient,

Best regards,

Jan

Can you indicate (when shipping in Japan starts again) from which seriel no. the fix is already performed during production? I think many people who are planing to order a 170 are interested.

Discuss your shipping needs in your inquiry to the pbtscservice addy and they will take care of you. Looking at the fix, it shouldn't take too long on the bench.

Best,

Jan

Hi Everyone,

Please calm down, it takes more that just a few minutes to put this stuff into play. People can be in meetings, and my meeting was the first of the day. Trust me there are people all over the world paying attention to this and you just nned to find the Panasonic Service for the Broadcast Gear in your area. While the objuctive is the same(fix cameras) the implementation may vary due to any number of things, but the objective will be taken care of.

Cees, I already mentioned that the serial numbers starting in J8 will have the fix in. Those with I8 may depending on whether Panasonic has fixed them. But as of today, no camera has been fixed.

Best,

Jan

Jan, thanks for the information regarding the fix.

There are a lot of us waiting to find out about the production line / new cameras as well. Can you reassure us that we'll hear something soon about buying new cameras (I'm considering Specialized Communications and B&H primarily)?

Well, my serial number starts with J8 and I'm wobbling, wobbling... I'm in Europe so it would be a HPX 171...

Please realize I am only talking about the US when I mention serial numbers as those are the only ones to which I am privy. Please contact Panasonic in your country. Thanks,

Jan

Did you read my previous post? I thought I was pretty clear.

Thanks,

Jan

Jan, you may want to consider writing up a thread and having it stickied for everyone who is to lazy to read the thread... this will stop most of the repeated questions, because I have a feeling you're going to see a lot of them.

I would but it would only be good for you guys in the US and then I would be hammered with the whole world, and they would not read. So far not bad and soon it will blow over.

Thanks though for the thought,

Jan

Jan, can you tell us about the fix itself? Is it a whole new lens assembly or add on of some sort?

Just curious.:)

i can't wait to never have to read this thread ever again. anyone else feel me?? guess i'm going to wait till Panny comes out with the new version, unless the Spec-Comm fix is identical.

i just want to order my new HPX170 and have this behind us all............

Hi,

The Spec-Comm fix is not identical. And there isn't a new version, as any camera can be just like those coming off the production line is about 2 hours.

Best,

Jan

Hi,

Is it possible to explain the differences between the Panasonic & Spec-Comm fix ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Off hand I believe that any camera with a serial number of J8 or higher will have the fix in it, but we are also working with dealers that have stopped shipping and will be fixing those inventories as well. So a solid start with this serial number really won't be a good guideline very quickly.

oh, sorry -- i didn't mean new version, but the new batches that will be produced with the fix already. approx when do you think i can be safe to order a HPX170 with the fix?

thanks Jan!

If your dealer does not have in stock you could order it now and the ones he gets will have it in, that should be by next week. If you are ordering from Spec-Comm, they do have inventory, but are not shipping until they have the parts and are able to put them in so that should be next week . So in either case, it looks like next week.

Best,

Jan
